Hey everyone! I have a 2001 auto NB GLX 1.8T and it has about 83K miles on it. I noticed that my car is having a hard time accelerating and if I drive up a hill my NB is very slow. I don't even feel my Turbo kicking in anymore. My mom drove my car the other day and agreed that my car is "sluggish". It is like my car isn't shifting gears properly. Sometimes my car jerks when the gears are shifting. I hope I don't need a new transmission! What could this be a sign of? I will take it into the shop in January.:(

Get the transmission flushed and the filter changed.

Get your DV replaced. (saw you mention the honking elsewhere)

That might make all the difference in the world.

Hey, just a question... will they even do this? My dealer has refused to do any service on my tranny. It is sealed, of course. You are not SUPPOSED to have to service the thing, and they won't touch. What is the 4 real low-down here?

Ok thanks for the responses!:) I will take it into the shop after the holidays. How often do you have to check your transmission fluid? or change it?

VW says that you don't have to change the tranny fluid for a staggering 100,000 miles. In reality, it should be about 60,000. There is a tech thread on how to do it yourself, but I recommend having a trustworthy shop do it for you. Run a search and you should find it.

Don't discount the car being in limp mode. Limp mode can be triggered by a dead MAF (most common). You can clear your fault codes by unplugging your battery for about 30 minutes. Basically, limp mode will not allow your car to make boost, resulting in a major loss of power.

They should be able to change the transmission fluid, if they knew how. It is sad, but not all VW dealerships know how to service all the cars properly. This might just be their way of not having to deal with it.

Try San Juan Capistrano VW for service. They know how to change the fluid.

is it safe to do so? I don't want to mess up my transmission.

I worry about it however, because it is hesitating lately when shifting gears. What does that mean?

This a touchy subject with VW and auto transmissions..

some say 100K is fine and the lifetime is cool, others recommend a 40-45-50K flush. I wanted to do mine at 45K but its looking like 50K will be the magic number!

There are kits out there: http://tinyurl.com/8knah

A VAG-COM is recommended as well.
