where are fellow cdn tdi beetle owners getting your oil and filters I am having a hard time finding synthetic oil for my 2001 1.9 found Fram oil filter at ctc for $23.00 which seems kind of expensive for a cartridge element .

I don't have a TDI, but I thought I'd throw this in:

Advance Auto Parts and Autozone both sell the filters - in a FRAM box. So I'm sure other auto parts up your way are the same thing:

Now, FRAM is complete crap - BUT.... open the box and look at the filter. It is usually an OEM Mann filter. Apparently it is cheaper for Fram to just rebox them rather than make their own version. Last I checked, cost was about $9.
