I have a 2004 New Beetle Convertible with the 1.8T engine and the 6-speed tiptronic transmission. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that when I'm in "manual mode", the transmission will skip 2nd gear during heavy acceleration. The sequence is something like this...
1) Start in 1st gear from a dead stop
2) Engine RPMs approach 6000
3) I shift to 2nd gear (BEFORE the tranmission forces it to at redline)
4) It shifts to 2nd gear successfully
5) It *automatically* shifts from 2nd to 3rd at about 3500-4000 RPM
Shouldn't it let me run 2nd gear up to redline or at least somewhere past 4000 RPM?
When I'm in "Sport" mode, the engines runs up to redline in all gears before shifting (except 5th and 6th of course) during heavy acceleration.
Any thoughts?
