I start thinking to add fog lights to my 06 NB 2.5L. Should I ask the service center of the dealer?

My 06 NBC didn't come with them and I checked with my local dealer's parts department who told me that right now there isn't a factory add on kit. I'm not sure if the parts guy knew what he was talking about as he could barely put a complete sentence together but either way I ma going to check with another local dealer to confirm it.
If there is no kit available I guess I will be buying a set of Hellas or PIAA for the car and custom mounting them.

An aftermarket set would be cheaper and would offer more creative mounting options.

Can the aftermarket kit be integrated to the car flawlessly? such as the switch of the foglight?

It depends on your level of mechanical aptitude. Most quality kits, i.e. PIAA come with nice switchgear, and easy to follow directions, so the answer is yes!:D
My 06 NB just came with the Package 1 and I am also looking into a fog light solution. What I was thinking is ordering the 2 outside lower grill pieces from the dealer that have the open holes for the fogs (if it's possible). Then I would find some aftermarket round fog lamps that would fit the OEM holes and mount the switch next to the ESP button in the center console.

I went to the delaer yesterday to ask about the fog lights.
They said I can buy the grilles for $7.49 each side and $165 for each fog light.
So, it would be around $345 or so..
However, they said they do not see wiring parts to be sold separately. There might wiring harness pre-wired to the front bumper already. They said look for the wire harnesses.
If there is pre-wiring for the fogs, it would look neat to have OEM ones installed. Otherwise, I will probably go for Hella Micro DE Micro xenon with grilles that have open holes.
Someone else post up your opinion if you have better one.

From what I understand about VW wiring harnesses they are built according to each car's options. The package 2 has lots of additional electrical demands like heated nozzels, rain sensing wipers, driving lights (why do people call these fogs:confused:) heated seats, etc that the package 0 does not have. Ask anyone who has done a VW engine swap about their nightmare with wiring harnesses.
If you know what you are doing with wiring, fuses, grounds, relays etc. and can get your hands on the wiring diagrams for the fog lights, then it should be as easy as running a feed to the correct position of the euro-switch. I'm also guessing that the power draw from the lamps will require the switching to be done via relay. Just a guess.
I can't see spending so much money on something that is barely noticable in these 06+ cars. At least the pre 06's lights stood out a bit and added to the "look"

My 2001 GL had the wiring already in place for fogs. All I would need to get would be the lights ($80 on ebay), the grill piece and the upgraded light switch to turn them on.
Look under the car (near where the fogs should be) and see if the wiring exists on the +06 Bugs and it should be a relatively easy install.

I'm putting HID system on it later today, so I will look into this.. I can't believe that no one else actually tried to put fogs on the beetle yet

I've also been thinking about fogs for our 2K6 NB TDI. While installing a TDI Heater I found what appears to be a fog light connector behind the left grill. I haven't poked around the right side yet to see if there's a connector there too.
I'd be surprised if the OEM harness doesn't have the break-outs for fogs already in place. I'm hoping that the grills, lights and a European switch should be the major items needed to do the installation.\
I'm going to order the Bentley Service Manual and see what information it has.

Let us know what you do. I would kinda like to install fog/driving lights on my bug. I saw on ebay a euro-type switch you could use.

I just finished installing hid kit on the beetle.
I checked to see if there are connectors for fogs, but I could not find them.
The one that you assumed to be a connector for fog is probably an impact sensor, which activates when the Air bag should deploy.

I've been told, and haven't been able to see otherwise, that my '99 GL does not have the foglight wiring. I often wished this was not the case, and at some point I'll go the aftermarket route. But, other than what Phil said, I'm going to agree with the notion that the wiring will not be there, and that it wouldn't be an easy add.
Best of luck!

My 07 NB didn't come with log lights initially. Due to a dealership **** up, where our idiot salesperson ordered the wrong package, the dealer put fog lights on my NB for free.
So yes it can be done.

06 Vert/pkg 1. Bought grills & lights from dealer.Simple to change grills/plastic snaps.Looks great.Couldn't find aftermarket lights that looked as good and filled the holes.
There is no factory wiring drop off for lights.Checked on New Beetle pkg 2 for wiring points.I will now add the relay and wire them up.Will have to sleep on the switch positioning.May just relay into DRL and leave on all the time.:D
