View Full Version : Putting the Roof down
I hope you can help me out.
I have had my Beetle cabriolet for over a month and today was a nice day so decided to have a drive around with the roof down.
When i went to put it down i couldnt work it out and the garage have only given me electric roof details and my roof is manual.
Can anyone advise me how you do this? the roof goes down fine but the light on the front doesnt go out so i havnt done it properly. I could do with step by step instructions.
There are two buttons that say press at the back but do not say what they are for.
Thanks

Sorry to hear that, Mine is not manual so sorry unable to help.
I know how frustrated you must be as it has rained here for alomost 2 months and I would die if the sun came out and I could not get the roof down.

EASY .. put the top down as normal , Push down on the corner of the top and the little buttons will Lock the top down you have to do this on both sides and then the light in the front will go out :) To put the top back up Press down on the Buttons this will Unlock the top and you can put it back up :D . I have a manual top and LOVE it :) .. hope this helps

Yup 2004 was the first year for the manual top model In the GL only , Just look for an NBC with no fogs chances are it'll have a manual top :D
Light Blue Metalic. 2004.
I believe (i may be wrong) the 1.4 is the manual roof and the 1.6 is the electric roof.
I am in the UK.
Love my car, only got it at Christmas, I cant wait until it gets warm and i can have the roof down! at least i know how to now. :)

Cool! That is such a nice color! Unfortunately, it is not offered in the States. You guys also have some engines that we don't get. The base engine was the 2.0L, which was standard on the GL (manual top) and GLS (power top). The GLS also came with the optional 1.8T, and the top-of-the-line GLX had the 1.8T standard (which is what I have), and was only made in 2003. Now, with the new body style, all of the trim levels have the 2.5L inline-5 only, which is basically one half of a Lamborghini Gallardo V-10 toned way down!
