Yeah, he's a big cheater, but it's only with his 1972 Karmann Ghia:D He bought this car on Ebay about a year ago and it's his dream car. He had a 1970 KG many years ago and sadly it passed away in 1989. So he's a very happy boy now! He is slowly replacing/modifying things here and there. Ain't it purty?

"purty" just starts it - WOW, beautiful! I want one! Someday . . . .
Hi,
:) Very Cool Karmann Ghia!
I remember Riding in one when I was a Kid!

LOL I was worried that he wouldn't fit into it when he bought it! But he assured me that he was fine in his first one, so what's a girl to do? ;) He's 6' 2" and it's funny to watch him get into it. GIGANTOR in his GHIA! :D I'll tell him you gave him the thumbs up!

parts are cheap
Yeah, some "parts" are cheap, but forget it if you have a fender-bender. You can't find front clips to save your life, and because of the way the Ghia's body was made (bolted together, then joints filled with solder and hand-sanded) they're damned expensive to do body work on.
I wore out the seats in my first Ghia. Sold it when I got married. The second one was to restore, but I found the third one soon after and pulled the 1600DP and manual tranny out of the second to replace the wheezy 1500 and AutoStick in the third. (That's the third one below.)
My son drove it happily for a couple of years until both he and some other idiot in a Jeep thought they could both jump through the yellow light. Guess who won? Sigh.

That is one nice looking Ghia!!
Many years ago, one of my parent's neighbors was a salesman @ a VW dealer. He would drive a different demonstrator home every night, so in the early 1970s I got to ride in every air-cooled VW.:D I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Ghia, and hopefully, one day I'll have a spot in my garage.

Baldy was definitely nervous about it, as we bought it and had it shipped to us without ever even seeing it in person or actually driving it! But the seller was reputable, had an 'online dealership' through Ebay, was available by phone (we spoke to him numerous times before bidding) and had very thorough records and pics posted. And it truly is a poor man's Porsche....Baldy couldn't be happier! ;)

Listen up B-Lox...you may dig this as you and tend to like the same stuff i'm finding out.
SPECTRAFLAME!!! Black interior or any will do so i have no input there. But picture this.
The original 68-70something Hot Wheels were painted in Spectraflame colors. Basically it's bare metal with a colored clear topcoat. Well in the age of Bondo it's hard to get a 100% metal body without filler or other matter. So....silver basecoat...and either red, green, or blue clear topcoat to allow the silver underneath to shine through!
I'm sending you guys the adoption papers this week so i too can be a Pinky-ring. :D

We've looked up the paint colors for that year and it looks like it was either Antarctic White or Savannah Beige. So basically yeah, like another Harvest :moon:!! That's what I thought! :D
I think Red with Tan interior is the way to go too! Lowered, some Porsche rims (or maybe BRM's) and a nice tint and it'll be a great little around town car.

DAMN!!! You got that for $400??? Any other deals like that out there?
I was kinda pissed that he paid that much too! LOL Then I started doing some research and figured out that it's a purty good price! :o
We checked on it last night and the guys got it running and it sounds (and smells) awesome! They are going to put an electronic ignition, another oil change and replace some fuel lines and we should be driving it by next weekend ;-)

What a deal! Sounds like some good mods coming up.
I may have missed it in the list, but does it have an ejection seat?
Okay, I'm done now.

The kids both took turns toolin' around with dad today......and check out the look on Weezer's face during her first ride with him!

The Fastback is coming along nicely! The boys gutted the interior, replaced the rims with steelies, removed the back windows, ordered new seals and replaced the tail lights and front markers.
Next week we are ordering a carpet kit, new headliner and sending the seats off to be reupholstered! Now if we could decide on a color!
We're pretty sure that it was originally Savannah Beige and maybe want to stick with that. We're all pretty much in agreement on BRM's, but I think it's gonna come down to a celebrity death match to decide the paint color! :shoot:
JB is very happy with his new friend!

i ****ing hate you guys. i so want that many cool cars. :( Jersey sucks lately. Can i be Yul's older brother? Just think. It'll keep him in line with the middle child thing and Weezer would have a smart older brother to hang with. I don't eat much, but i cook well and clean up after myself.
I'll even legally change to London Jr. if i have to!
Maybe just camp out in the garage on a sleeping bag??

I have a soft spot for the fastback - the first VW I ever drove was my grandparents' brand new 1966 FB and I was hooked.
But the Ghia is what melts my heart. That's a beauty, Baldy, and you look as happy as a twister in a trailer park in it. With good reason! The EMPIs look fabulous and even though I never had one of the late ones, I always thought the "big ugly taillights" looked sharp.
Rock on!

Meh! I never understood the whole Fastback 'rat turd' concept until I was following Baldy when he went to drop it off and I heard a group of guys shouting out 'cool fastie' as he went by. :)

It's a hot car that just SWEATS potential! Reminds me of the old racecars from the
60s, even if it's only 2 years older than me. :D Me, i'd get a squareback, but Fastbacks are ALL hot! Just like this 1973 Fastback...

One thing I am impressed with is that this little sucker is faster than the Ghia. It's got dual baby Weber carbs. Smokin'....

Hmm...
The first pic I saw of your '70 fastback was the frontend shot sitting next to JB. I instantly flashed back to the bright blue '72 wagon my ex-girlfriend drove a zillion years ago....:jawdrop:
I shuddered.
Neat looking car though.:)
