Dust Collection

How can I stop this. I just washed the car yesterday. It's been waxed recently and still anywhere it is touched the dust will collect like this. It is annoying. Is it caused by ststic electricity? Is there anything I can do to stop it. After a wax job the whole thing attracts dust.

Go to your local auto shop or anywhere that has cleaning supplies. They make this thing called the california duster. its made for cases like this were all you have is dust and no need to wash. It does not scratch your car.

I agree. The Cali Duster is awesome for quick detail touch ups.

I am thinking that the dust is collecting in areas where you touch due to the oils on your skin (or maybe you use hand cream??). The dust is probably sticking because of that. But thats just a guess on my part.

There are two cali dusters. A small one for the interior, and a large one for the exterior. Both work quite well. I know how you feel about dust...sucks living in Texas during a drought.

Static electricity is causing the accumulation.

Learn something new everyday. Thanks guys for the tip on the Cali-dusters. I really can use on on the interior. I just washed buttercup Saturday past and her inside is showing signs of dust.

Hmmmm...you know, I may have to try one of those California car dusters. I hear they're pretty good.

Another reason could be that this is excess wax. I use Mothers Cali Gold wax and sometimes I get that dusty residue after I wax...Cali duster takes care of it.

Ditto on the Cali duster. I also have a mini Swiffer duster I keep in my trunk for when I need to dust of my dash. Works great!:)

It's the wax off motion with the towel that causes static on my car. The Cali duster is the way to go,I've had mine for 10or so years and it still works great!

It may have to do with the kind of paint. I know on our white NB I don't think we get any noticeable static electricity, but perhaps on some metalic paints you would.

Maybe an idiot question, but how do you clean one of those dusters after you use it to swipe dust off the bug?:)

You can also hand wash them with Woolite. I have washed mine several times and the fabric still has the clingy wax on it.

Same problem here ... I cant win! Zoomer looks so good after a bath (day at the spa)... but within 60minutes he's alllll dusty again. Poopies.

My husband and I have our own Cali Dusters and a friend of ours told us that the dirtier the Cali Duster gets the better it will work? Does that make any sense?

And yes, it is a life saver for those that live in a desert!!:D

It's not the car, the paint, the type of clearcoat....
The problem is just static, it's like when you have electronics, they always are dusty, anyways back to the car. When you wax the car, the dust is always attracted to the car. You won't notice this if the car hasn't been recently waxed.

As mentioned before by others, I strongly recommend the California Dusters!
I use both the small one for the interior and the large one for the exterior.

Just picked up the small Cali-Duster at Walmart :( (how I hang my head in shame) but it was cheap - :p less than 7 bucks. If you own a beetle and don't have one of these yet, GET ONE! And it fits in the glovebox, of course it the only thing in mine, manual excluded.

Mine does the same thing. Its from a super shiny finish and most of my dust appears to be mettalic so I'm assuming its brake dust. I actually heard the bounce sheet theory before, Although I have never tried it. :)

One word of caution on the use of the Cali duster. If the car has received any kind of moisture on top of the dust, don't use the duster - it will scratch. Go wash the car before using the duster again. Voice of sad experience. Other than that, the duster is great. I use it all the time to keep the nasty dust down to a minimum.

Hey, welcome to the org:wave:. I see you're new here. It's good to have you a part of our family. By any chance are you from Jacksonville. We had a Get-to-Gether (GTG) just a couple of weeks ago and a fellow beetle owner (Blackbeetle) pulled into sonic and asked about getting dust of their bug. Are you the one??
