The check engine light came on. Connected a code reader with Laptop hookup. The response came back: "P1582 Powertrain: Cruise Direction Circuit Low Voltage." Well the car does NOT have cruise control, so I thought maybe a sensor in the transmission may have flaked out. I did a clear code command, and drove the car around the block and the check engine light stayed off. However when the car was driven the next day for 30 minutes, the check engine light returned. I welcome all ideas/suggestions.

Well, the wife almost didn't make to work in the bug today. So I had to have her drop the car off for service at the VW dealer. I called 'em and they said the "N-80" valve needed replaced, (a part within the throttle body, I wonder how hard that is to put on?) The check engine light had error codes for mis-fires, and other intake problems. They're going to clean carbon build up out of the throttle body and intake. (does that mean they'll gunk it out a bit with carb cleaner? I'm disgusted. $335.00 bucks! Oh well, I'd better do some more P.M. on the thing since she wants to keep it. Otherwise been a good car. It's a 99, and paid for, so we'll hang onto it for a while longer.

Fairly easy job. Just a little time consuming.
If you do it, use throttle body cleaner and a used tooth brush to do the cleaning. Do not use carb cleaner. What some dealers do is to spray a cleaner into the intake, let set for a while, then run the bejeezers out of the motor for cleaning.
