First of all I have 'Robbie'
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a309/Shamrockez7/Robbie/ecf38f8d.jpg

More pics of him can be found on the Bug pics forum.... but Robbie has 6 brothers and 1 sister too!

Bertie: I've had Bertie since September 2000, and he was my first car and taught me to drive, he was 'born' on 13th April 1971 and has a 1300cc engine to power him along. He failed his MOT in May 2003, so is currently waiting for us to get round to restoring him, but in the mean time looking quite sorry for himself, but making a rather useful shed!.

Before:

Now:

Oscar: We bought Oscar a couple of years ago locally. He's a late 72 Devon Bay, but we've sinces replaced the interior. He was orange and white, with 1 layer of blue hammerite slapped over the top when he bought him. As you can imagine, he looked terrible! So we hand painted him blue and yellow, which looks ok from a distance ;) Oscar's currently on the 'resto' list:

Joey: We bought Joey in March 2004 as our first resto project. We've learnt to weld with him, and learnt a lot! He's about 80% of the way through his resto, with only a small amount of welding to be done - then it's on to the mecanical bits and paint! Hopefully he'll be on the road in spring 2006! You can see pics etc of his full resto here: http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=134370
As he was:

Ted: is a 61 Split was bought off a crazy 71yr old bloke called 'Ted' in Australia in Spring 2005 (and my dad then named the bus after him), who was starting his music career (I'm using the phrase 'career' lightly) at 71. We have an album he did called 'Chookshed Ted' and his 'hit' goes on about putting chicken poop on his head to grow hair... he's like an Australian Wurzel! Anyway, he had the bus for 7-12yrs (depending on which day you talked to him on), and for most of that time, it had sat under a car port type thing waiting for him to get round to restoring it. There is very little in the way of rust.
http://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~wurrzeldubbers/pics/ourvws/lucysvws/63split1.jpg

Skippy: My dad has named the 73 Bay 'Skippy' (we now have a Skippy and a Joey... ). It was bought off the same bloke in Australia (Ted). Apparently it's a 'Sopru' conversion. It's got a rock and roll bed, a hob, a fridge etc. It's very solid, and I could hardly find any rust! He's also the only one who is actually roadworthy! He'll be for sale once we've got Joey on the road:
http://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~wurrzeldubbers/pics/ourvws/lucysvws/73bay3.jpg

Bella: A 1958 Bug who was owned by a bloke called Mark from Liverpool (it's a small world!) who'd moved out to Australia, where we bought her in Spring 2005 to ship back. She has a few wrong bits on it, like the rear lights and front indicators (shouldn't have any because she has semaphores):

And finally Widget: Widget is the baby of the family. We picked him up last Wednesday (1st March 06) brand new. Widget is a T5 (Transporter) with a 2.5l 172bhp TDi engine. He goes like stink! :D Very fast! He should be getting a few more additions in the future :)

I am proud :D They're all good 'kids' ;)

Seriously tho, I don't seem to be able to part with most of them. Altho Skippy will be sold at the end of the summer once we have Joey on the road :)

The oldest is Bella - 1958... she doesn't need much to be put back on the road, but we're concentrating on trying to get Joey on the road first!

My late mother's name was Bella...She bought me my first VW (and first car) when I was 18, a 1997 Jetta VR6, which I still have, along with her BMW, both of which are somewhere in this forum. Dad and I couldn't part with them. Please post a pic of your '58 Bug when you get a chance.

On a lighter note...172hp diesel?!?!? That's so AWESOME!!! How did that escape me, seeing as I am a regular reader of British VW magazines...We don't get ANY verison of the T5 Stateside. Instead, we're getting a minivan that will be co-designed by DaimlerChrysler. Ugh!

Sorry to hear about your mum :( Here's some more pics of my Bella:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a309/Shamrockez7/640b2be0.jpg

I don't seem to have many of her for some reason. She does have all the bumpers etc to go on her, but we had to take them off for shipping. And I've not got most of the correct parts for her year too. She shouldn't have the indicators on the front of the lager rear lights.

People who know about old Bugs will appreciate these pics of how solid she is:

Shame you don't get the T5 over there - it's a really nice van. You have a choice of the 1.9tdi with 88bhp, a 1.9 with 104bhp, a 2.5tdi with 130bhp (6 speed) and the 2.5tdi with 172bhp (6 speed) which we have. It's a very nice engine, and it's seriously fast - leaves my 90bhjp tdi Bug in it's dust!!!! Also the most powerful engine you can get in a factory production van :D

Lookin' good! She does look pretty solid. As for the T4 Transporter or Eurovan as we call it, VW of America did a lousy job (well, no job at all) of advertizing it during the 10 or so years that it was sold here. It is ironic (pathetic, really) that the company that is famous for its original minivan stopped selling them here. Given the right options and advertizing, I'm sure that the current generation could have had a chance. There are plenty people that would not buy one of the more ubiquitous minivans from Chrysler or Toyota, but would buy a VW. Oh well. I'm dreading the debut of the VW/Chrysler joint-venture project, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it. We currently do not have a European van of any size on the market unless you count the Dodge/Freightliner Sprinter, which is basically a rebadged Mercedes Sprinter. Even BMW is working on a minivan of their own....

Shamrockez

Yeah she's very solid. Never been welded either :D

Shame you don't get the T5 :( The T4 sold very well over here, shame they didn't push it more in the US.

Yeah the Sprinter is quite a big van compared with the T5. Interesting to see what happens with the VW/Chrysler venture..

Oh man I now know that I am a seriously warped individual because to me that T5 is HOT HOT HOT!!!

Nice lil collection you have there. I hope you get them all up and running soon... makes me a bit jelous though because I only have Pomelo and Oscar.. ;)

Shamrockez

Yeah but your 2 almost match!!! :D I'm gonna do Bertie up the same as Robbie - red, stripes, 18inch EMPI 5s etc :D

Some friends of mine came over last night and met Bella for the first time - and yelled at me for not having her MOTd (roadworthy certificate you have to have over here before you can take your car on the road) yet.... they said they'd be able to get her MOTd after 1 weekend's work! :D And they got her wipers working for me... altho it did involve me holding the bonnet up, one connecting the lives together and the other holding a wire from the wiper arms to the body as an earth... now all I need to do is either lock them in the bonnet forever to make the wipers work, or a bit of rewiring, hehe.

Yeah the T5 is ace - we're really impressed with it. It's going to have some chrome sidesteps on in the next couple of weeks - should look smart :D

Steve also wants to get a lower spoiler for the front bumper and a rear spoiler on the back door for him too....

Thanks everyone :)

Bella's had a bit of work done on her this weekend. I've fixed the fuel leak, put the new door handle on, fixed the bonnet down (with the 'interesting' catch which came with her), fixed the engine lid lock so that it actually locks, installed the new bonnet hinge, put the 4th wing back on and fixed all the lights! Then found an old roof rack behind the shed, and chucked it on her roof and took some pics!

Very nice collection you got. Good luck with the restorations!

I'm liking the T5 a lot. I wish they sold them here because I'm sure my parents would get one over the two Chevy Astros they own. The only reason they have them is because they are the only minivans that are sqaure enough to provide good hauling capacity but the T5 looks pretty darn similar. Id rather them have that than the Astro vans...and they are thinking of getting rid of one soon perhaps (our '89 astro). I'd love to add another VW to our family to keep my NB company when I'm at home :P The engine choices on it sounds really good too, especially for a minivan! I'm impressed
