Google and Volkswagen have prototyped a new 3D GPS navigation system based on the concept of Google "Earth"; screenshots are attached.
Hardware is being developed by nVidia at Palo Alto, CA, and this system is capable of real-time update, info, and news .. of course.

Google in my car. hmmmmm...... I can't help but think of the auto insurance ad where the GSP tells the driver to turn right ... which he does and slams into a building. The GPS then says "in fifty feet." :D

Looks pretty neat! As happy as I was with Microsoft Streets and Trips plugged into my GPS as a nav system, the 3D would make it that much better! You can compare reality to digital!

What's a Super-Beetle?

We'll never see it in a Beetle. They won't re-design the dash to accomidate it a few years before they kill the NB off anyway. :(

Funny you mention that, because the prototype, Concept 1, for the New Beetle had a dash pop up display for navigation. It was just past the vents and hazard button (for those with the red triangle up on the dash).
I've never had a GPS system in any car I've owned, nor have I driven in a car with one in it so I really haven't had much experience with them but I think this looks incredible! I think the graphics are awsome! It would be great for the NB, just because it's a little car, doesn't mean it can't have big technology!!!!

Those screenshots are stunning, what an awesome concept. I have a Magellan 700 in my car (transferrable, had it in the beetle, use it in the other beetle and the golf) and I adore it, its been a lifesaver when going on trips (and of course mving to another state where I didnt know about anything), I love the fact that you can look up points of interest and have their phone numbers right there so you can call, it has saved me far more in gas than I bought it for (500 refurbished on ebay) and I will never live without one again. I am one of those people who gets lost going around the block...
...however I think I would be too busy staring at this thing to actually drive.

Just because they dont put it in the Beetle doesnt mean we cant rip it off something else and install it ;)

Since VW is, at least in some way, working on a new successor to the NB, I wouldn't be so sure that we'll never see it in one. It could happen.
