Hope this isn't a repeat Q but I haven't found anything on removal of the nbc inside rear view mirror. I've read some threads for removal of the mirror for a hardtop but nothing for nbc.

Would anyone who has done it once or more care to share?

Thanks,
Jeff

Batguano, don't know if this pertains to your NBC but I thought I'd lob it to you FYI. Hope it helps...Alan

Well, I whipped out the old Bentley manual which covers '98 - '02 model years. It states:

A) Pull rear edge of mirror mount trim down from headliner and unhook trim at front edge. Disconnect harness connector for interior light from mirror mount.

B) Press mirror downward [and away toward windshield] at an angle off retaining plate (spring clip in mirror base). END.

the text in red is mine and reflects the direction of the arrow in the accompanying illustration. Good luck to you and share your pics when you're done...Alan

I accidentally bumped the interior rear view mirrow while cleaning the inside of the windshield. I heard a faint snap and the mirror went limp.

I drove with the mirror hanging limp and it was a distraction. So I decided to put a dab of clear silicone adhesive on the base part that fits inside the windshield cover thinking that this would be a good temporary fix. The mirror stayed up there, but it wobbles madly. Apparently, the mirror attaches to solid framework, and there is a reason that the hole in the plastic windshield cover does not contact the mirror stem--the trim rattles.

Eventually, I took it to the dealer. They said the NBC rearview mirror is not at all like the rearview mirror in the sedan. The mirror for the sedan is supposedly available as a separate part. But in the NBC, the mirror and upper winshield trim panel are one assembly. That assembly costs about $700 and the installation costs an additional $200. Because I put the dab of silicone on the mirror stem, I voided the warranty. (the whole thing has to be replaced as an assembly so go tell).

Moral of the story, be very careful when you clean the windshield as the mirror will snap off at the lightest touch. If it does break, hope your car is still under warranty, and do not touch it, or try to fix it yourself.

Would be interested in how you resolve your problem.

The mirror does come off by itself, with the clock/thermometer. You start at the top of the display panel and work it down, and the rest is similar to the coupe.

The windshield header is an entirely separate piece... why they said $700 is beyond me (and surely it doesn't cost $200 to install). Sir, that's rape.

In both coupe and convertible, the mirror and clock displays are a single unit. Yes the upper trim pieces are different but it's all the same, essentially.

Des,
Thanks for the information. I will ask my dealer to order the part. I'll bet it's less than $700!

Interior rearview mirror,removing and installing.
-pull trim (with clock) against spring pressure toward rear and disengage trim at front edge
-pull trim downward at rear edge
-disconnect harness connectors for interior light and clock
-pull rearview mirror down at an angle to release from retaining plate(retaining springs in base of mirror

Thank you for saving me a lot of $$$.

Reinstalling the mirror that had snapped lose when I was cleaning the inside of the windshield was easy following your instructions. Actually, you were describing how to remove the mirror. To re-install one that has been bumped and falls limp, you have to pull the trim down so that you can see what you are doing. Then align the base with the spring-loaded pins into the socket in the windshield frame and give it a tap and voila!

Cost = nothing!
