You don't need Vagcom to gauge temperature. Use an Infrared Thermometer on the pan and it should be accurate +/- 2 degrees.

You may also be interested in doing the pressure line adjustment: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=583532&page=&fpart=1&vc=1

Good luck!

There is also the one I did at the old forums...

If you're too lazy to search for it, then so am I. :)

Just aim it at the pan.

Where is the cheapest place to get all the replacement parts for the trans fluid change??? Are they factory parts or something else??

For OEM parts at a discount you can get them at http://www.1stvwparts.com/ http://www.parts4vws.com http://www.germanautoparts.com (http://www.germanautoparts.com/) to name a few.
The fluid is rather expensive. Better be sitting down when you get the price quote. Or, you can use Esso synthetic automatic transmission fluid. Esso makes the OEM fluid for VW according to the German VW web site. Pentosen also sells fluid for the automatic transmission.

I've bought all the Pentosin ATF, filter and gasket at www.germanautoparts.com. They had the best price when I last checked.

The filler cap and lock can be found at any VW/Audi dealer.

How much fluid do I buy for the change?? Has anyone just measured out the fluid that came out instead of doing the temperature method for volume to put back in:confused: ?? If said amount comes out isn't that the same amount to put back and be done with it??

3 liters should be plenty - but get 4 to be safe - shipping is about the same... best price I found on Pentosin was www.worldimpex.com for $9 per liter.

Well, if you use the Bentley procedure to check the fluid and it is the correct level, then you can add back the same amount as you drain..... but without a VAG-COM (or other method of reading fluid temp) you can't check the level. It's a Catch 22.
