As it turns out, my wife's hairdresser is a National Educator with Paul Mitchell. When she found out that I was a photographer, we set up a time for a test shoot. She brought in a Seattle represented model, along with a Professional make-up artist.
The hairdresser has been doing photoshoots with "her" photographer for over 5 years, and this was my FIRST fashion shoot. When the first shots came up on the laptop, she was totally blown away with the quality. :D
By the time we were done, she was talking about themes for her/our entry to NAHA (http://www.oneroof.org/naha/), which is the North American Hairstyling Awards (The Academy Awards of the hairstyling world)
So here are a couple of "test" shots. :)

FWIW, I just got a call from the hairdresser. Turns out that the Paul Mitchell Senior Vice President for the Northwest wants her to write a mentoring story and use MY photo's in Paul Mitchell's "Cut & Dry" Magazine! Woohoo! :goodjob:
(If someone told me that I would be published for the first time for a fashion shoot, I'd have laughed at them!)

You know something Justin? And I say this out of love, (as the preachers often say right before they say something that does not sound like it's out of love), but man, are you blind to your talent?
How long have I been on the ORG? 3 years? No, I think 4. And in all that time, I have always seen your photos as some of the best photos that I have ever seen.
Shoot boy, you just have the eye, you know?
Every person has a talent, something they do better then most, and that, my boy, for you is taking the pretty pictures.
So, if some one told me, you would be published for the first time for a fashion shoot, I'd would have not laughed at them, I would have congratulated them for spotting obvious talent!

Thanks TJ, you're gonna make me blush! :o
I do see a bit of talent, but I am still my own worst critic. Every photo I take, I can see something that I could have done better. (This is looking at the photo's long after the event is done) I am a perfectionist, I'll freely admit that. I am however learning that I do have a bit of skill. It's taken 14 years of shooting to realize it.

As a married man, I can look at those shots, and say, what a beautiful composition, wonderful lighting, nice make up, good clothes, and well framed.
As a married man, that is all I can say.
My brother, on the other hand, is single. And he says she is hot, and you you are one lucky dude to get to take the photos!

Do you tell the girls, to "work it" "own it"... like the photographers tell the models in the movies?
I hope you get to do our family pictures. That would be so much fun!

Nah, the models that I have worked with so far already know what they are doing, so they don't need any coaching or anything. :D

The hairdresser that we are working with got an email today from the Senior Vice President of Marketing at Paul Mitchell looking for more images to submit to some haircolor magazines.
Don't know exactly what that means for me, but it does show that there are some very powerful people seeing my photographs. :D

I know you are joking!:wave3:
I'm still learning, believe it or not! Up until recently, I had never shot any "fashion" type photo. None! I have done a lot of looking and studying of past and present fashion photography trying to understand what the difference between a fashion photo and a portrait. There is a big difference, but to the casual observer, it's not that noticeable.
Sure, I'd love to just point my lens at beuatiful models all day without knowing what I am doing. The results would be dismal at best.
Thanks everyone for the great words! I appreciate it very much! :wave3:

Justin, I have no doubt that you have worked hard to get as great as you are. But as TJ said you have an eye, a natural talent. It is very obvious that you worked hard to nurture that talent. I can truly say that between you & Gail I've been insipred to pick up my old camera. I'm also saving up for a new digital SLR. Please keep giving us images to enjoy.:)

It's been a while since I shared a pic or two. Technically not "hair" shots, they are a bit fashonable.
These were shot this past saturday. Same model.

Both of those sets you mention, the makeup was airbrushed on. Do you do airbrush makeup? I personally think that the airbrushed stuff looks WAY better on camera than traditional brushed on makeup.
If you don't already do airbrushed makeup, perhaps you should....the stylist that we worked paid $300 to airbrush each of those faces!
Thanks TJ! Yeah, it was a real strat, just one of those Made in Mexico ones, and she was missing the high E string.

Thanks TJ! :wave3:
This is the third time we have photographed her! She was 16 on our first shoot! She has now graduated high school.
Our hair stylist (The Paul Mitchell Senior National Educator) usually finds the models through her channels. Since we shoot some ok images, she keeps bringin them in! We've got another hair shoot at the end of the month.

I have to say, the only girl i'd be into here is the girl with the guitar. She seems to be wearing the least amount of makeup. :)
HOWEVER...since these are supposed to be photography threads and not hot chick threads, your shooting is superb!

one more thing...
Is that one shot a bondage thing? The girl has a belt tied around her neck.
