What to use to clean off tar

I've tried several different products to remove tar such as Bug and Tar Remover(didn't do much) or a few all purpose cleaners. Today my mom, our friend Valerie and me cleaned my bug and Valerie's Golf. The Golf had a lot of tar build up on the driver's side door. My parents are Amway/Quixtar distributors so we decided to try a little of the all purpose cleaner called LOC. It worked great!! My mom sprayed the LOC on the tar and it practically fell off in pieces. It's very concentrated -- use a 3:1 or 2:1 solution(water to LOC). Great stuff!!

Glad you found something that worked for you. I use WD-40 or Simple Green for oil/tar removal. Simple Green works great as an engine compartment degreaser/cleaner as well. :D

I found a great product. I have this sort of outlet type store near me...Market Outlet.....and they carry Fuller Brush products.

I didn't know this, but they don't just make brushes. They have a wide variety of cleaning products for home and car. They have a bug and tar remover that you just spray on, and it looks like Scrubbing Bubbles, (FOAMS UP) and then it attacks the spots and disolves them......its AWESOME!

And also a great line of auto brushes.......I got their detailing set. For the interior and exterior......the Wheel brush is awesome for removing brake dust! :D

Well as for where to buy, there's probably a distributor near you(they don't go door to door selling anymore!!):D As for the pics, I probably won't see Valerie until next week, but I'm sure the tar will attach itself to Daisy soon enough with all the road work going on around here. Next time I do tar removal I'll post before and after pics.

It has everything LOC there. My mom usually orders the 1.04 gallon and then we dilute it from there in a spray bottle. The original smells good, but if you want your Beetle to smell like a fruit salad you could get one of the other scents!! :D

I use WD-40 on my other car and it worked great.

I used Goo Gone once on an inconspicuous area and it worked fine...I'm afraid to ty it on the front of the car, though.

I um...used gas. It was stinky and you need to wash your car afterwards AND wax it. And NO SMOKING!!!!

I tried simple green, gasoline, toulene (I believe), WD-40...but nothing... anything shy of using a wire brush. That tar is on for good.

I recently used Stoner's Tarminator with a cotton terry cloth on a truck that looked like they went searchin for contruction zones. And all i gotta say is that it works awesome, It not only took the tar off, but it took off all the stuck-on grime and grease of years of use, it was almost as good as claybarring, with half the effort. I loved every Stoner product I've tried (Xenit, Invisible Glass, and Tarminator).
