Hi,

I haven't officially introduced myself, but I'm a new beetle owner. I just recently purchased a Salsa Red TDI. I'm wondering if it's worth having a bra on the car - any opinions?

They will protect the front from rocks and other crap. I dont like them though. I had one on my previous car and it seemed to accumulate lots of dust and debris under it. When I took it off at the end of winter there was an obvious line going across the hood. I guess if you take it off and keep it clean underneath frequently then it would be no problem.

They can cause scratching and uneven fading of the paint. I generally say wait to buy one till after you've gotten yourself a boo boo you want to cover.

Um.. to be a little more crass about it I'll just quote what someone at a GTG of performance GTIs said: "cars, like women, look best with their bras off."

A warm welcome to the Org.! Move your cursor and click on the "search" bar, click on "advanced search" enter "bra" into the box, Click the down arrow next to the box and click on "search titles only", then click on the search button below. It should bring up all the threads with "bra" in their titles. Lots of differing opinions here...

I guess the biggest question is does Perfect Fit make a car for the new body style?
www.carbras.com

I love my Perfect Fit Bra. It's almost essential with my custom paint. I'd hate to see my front end if I didn't have it on 90% of the time.
Sometimes if I know I am only driving around town - to work and back. I will leave it off for a while, but definately for road trips - it's a must!

Eeg I got a bra from MidAmerica Motorworks or whatever. It scratched the hell out of the paint. And yeah, I put it on right. >:( They refunded me half of the touchup -rolls eyes- regardless of me having a paint shop confirm that I had the bra fitted properly. Sigh.
Feel the tubing on a bra you buy. If its rough, its probably going to mar your paint.

I have seen, and strongly reccomend, an "invisible bra" system. A lot of the NSX crowd use them, and if its good for them, good for me. Ive seen a few others with them and you can get pre-cuts on ebay (Search invisible bra). Its the same stuff that comes on your watch face when you just buy it - the plastic you peel off.
But
They can yellow, and if you bake them in the sun for years and years theyre tough to get off. So I would reccomend peeling them off and reapplying a new one every few years. :) Im going to get one for the silver Beet once I get around to repainting the bumper.

PunkinBug - ditto!! I had a bra for my Geo Prizm because I wanted to hide the nasty rock damage and after only a year, there was a definite line of protected/faded paint. It was a major pain to take off and clean too. My mom and I have both an invisible bra and they're great! She has a white Lancer and it really is invisible on hers. Mine shows up a tiny bit more. When I have a little money saved, probably next year, I'm going to get the bra replaced. It has a small tear in it but is in good shape otherwise after a year and a half.

I love my clogan bra and mirror booties. Although i am anal about taking it off every week or 2 to clean under it. And altho alot of people swear by perfect fit, i swear clogan fits better than perfect fit. Although i dont know if either comapny makes a new body style bra yet. And also the only ting bad about hte bra is that youll get rock chips over the bra.

Same here. I bought mine last year and love it for road trips. I live in a smaller city w/o freeways so I take it off for local driving.

I make sure that I wash and wax well before putting the bra on to protect the hood. I also wash both the bra and car when removing it. No problems so far...only protection! I highly recommend the Perfect Fit Bra. :bigthumb:

I have one for my 06 Plat. Gray TDI. I like it. I wash my car often, and always make sure to wash the bra as well.

Make sure you give your car a good washing & waxing before using it.

I have a Perfect Fit, so they do have them for the new body.

I have the Perfect Fit Bra and it is incredible. I never liked the Vw bra because its pretty cheap looking and doesnt have protection for the hood. I would get one! It should look sweet with salsa red:D

Mine should look nicer, but my paint is faded away. Cyber green is a real sweet color and makes a nice contrast with the black bra.

have you look into the 3M clear film that can be applied like window tint. Aerotect has them for other cars. It is clear and is barely noticeable. here is their URL - www.aerotect.net. See if they make one for the beetle.

As for car bras, as mentioned above, can change the color of your paint. It's a pain to have on because each week when I wash the car, I have to take if on and off.

hope this helps.

I have the VW bra and I love it. I take it off for winter when there are no bugs. As long as you take it off once in a while you won't have any problems with the paint. Also, keep a good coat of wax on at all times.

I ordered the perfect fit Bra and it does not fit so perfect!!
I called and asked if they had sent me the wrong one and they told me that NO ONE makes a bra for the 03 Turbo S???
anyone have any insight on this?

Yes, that is correct. I do not think anyone makes a turbo-s bra except for VW. And i think that they discontinued it.

Not true my friend. i just bought my Turbo S bra about a month ago from my VW service dept for around 75 bones. Check on my bra thread in the styling mods section. I love the way it looks, except for the taking it off to clean thing, but alas, it works wonders. We took our road trip home to STL from Alabama and thank god for that Bra. Bugs sprayed right off once we got home. I love this thing. Check your dealership. They'll probably tell ya its like 150 bones but have them look it up on the driver gear site, it's only 75.

I use a Perfect Fit crawler style bra on both of our NB's I also have the side view mirror covers as well. They are almost essential if you do any high speed highway driving at all. The Perfect Fit is the best one out there, in my opinion. It fits tight, no velcro or metal snaps, covers the entire front end including protection for the fog lamps and screen for the bottom air grille. I have not had any fading, scratching or flapping while using it. I usually remove it weekly to clean with 303Aerospace cleaner and then treat it with 303Aerospace protectant.
303 is the only protectant recommended to be used on a bra. It is not greasy and does not leave an oily residue on the surface. Plus it has UV protection in it as well.
I've had mine for over two years now and both still look like new. So, if you want to protect your paint from bugs, grime, stone chips and everything else that can fly up into your car, try the Perfect Fit, you won't be disappointed
