Hey, I've had my used 2001 2.0L gas beetle for aboutttt... lets say almost two years now, and sometimes the RPMs like to slip, and it doesn't like to shift as it should, etc... Is there any way to tell that it's time for a new transmission, or is it mainly the feel of it or you just need it checked out by a dealer or something. Help much appreciated!

I don't believe any maintenance has been done. I don't even know if they did my 90,000 mile check up because my parents think "it's a scam!!!!" so it's really hard to say whats wrong. I hate how they're so stubborn because I took it a while ago to get my inspection and it failed because the check engine light was on (for three months) and they said it's not worth it for the 90,000 mile check up, so we took it to a gas station for the inspection, it failed, then we got a new catalytic converter cause VW dealer said it was the problem, and it would be 1100 bucks, so we got one from the gas station and installed by him for 500. drove it about 20 miles and check engine light is back on, so i think it may be the tranny, I dunno. Thanks for helpin me out left and right, really appreciate it.

I would change the fluid before further damage occurs....

Good advice. DRIVE A POSSIBLE MINOR PROBLEM INTO A MAJOR ONE. PLEASE GO TO A REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION SHOP AND ASK FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. "THE MOST EXPENSIVE TRASMISSION YOU WILL EVER BUY IS THE ONE YOU DON'T NEED"
