hey. i have a 2000 nb 1.8t with 45000 miles. so here is the problem.
last night driving home, i was at a stop light and when i went to shift into 1st the clutch pedal tension changed. it became a little bit softer (not much but noticeable) and there was a slight clicking sound (coming from the pedal area) when i disengaged the clutch.
the clicking made me think that there were problems with the over center return spring. i took the under dash panel off and the spring itself and the white bracket look intact but there may be something specific that i dont know to look for.
however, going back to the shifting problem, when i start to re-engage the clutch the pedal has enough tension to get to a certain point, but then it feels like there isnt enough tension to get the clutch to fully engage immediatley. it does engage after 1 to 2 seconds. there is no grinding or noise when it is trying to engage. so could this be the fluid levels? there is the clicking though which i dont think would have anything to do with the fluids.
so if anyone can help me out that would be great. i have read through previous threads and none of them seems to describe exactly what is happening to my beetle.
also the other question is, i really dont want to drive until i figure this out but the only way i can check the fluids is to drive about 20 miles to a friends house who can jack it up. am i taking a huge risk driving anywhere?
thanks a lot for your help :D
