Default First oil change! help?

Do I have to get my oil changed at the "devilship" where I bought my car in order to keep the VW warranty?

Can anyone answer me (either way, and provide some sort of proof?) I know that in the USA (lucky them!) They are not obligated to get oil changes or scheduled maintenance done at a dealership.

Help? I'd just like a solid answer. Am going in for my 8k oil change this week..., am dreading it. Huge waste of money.

Since owning my Beetle for two years, I've only taken it to the dealership. Its higher priced but usually they throw in a free carwash and check for any recalls that have been done.

Note: Don't take it to Queensway VW, for some reason it seems to take them an hour to do a oil change. It also took them an EXTRA hour to tell me my car was finished.

Looks like I will be taking it to the dealership for a couple of reasons:

#1 Booked my appointment in advance because I anticipated doing a lot of driving this week

#2 My car would not start/turn over this morning and I have a feeling it has to do with the brake light recal (the shift indicator on the floor console with the little shoe symbol was flashing) -- check exhaust light came on

Crap.
