Hi Nadine,
Good for you. The 12+ power line behind the deck will not be enough to power your amp. There is likely an amp (turn-on) wire (usually blue) from your deck that can be used for "turning on" your Amp. You should run a heavier gauge wire 12 gauge or thicker (depends on amp size, but I recommend at least 10 gauge). Good luck! 1pt8t |

hey
just wanted to let you know my little beetle finally has a new head unit, speakers, amp and sub and it sounds great, finding the grommit on the firewall was a bit trickier because it was on the opposite side to the ones on this site (because evrything is switched in aus, so it was on the passenger seat. a new head unit was really easy to install, kept all original wiring and bought a wiring harness so no splicing of original wires was needed, so if i ever want to go back to standard i can. all the wiring is hidden nicely, and so are speakers, you cant even tell that it has been all changed, il post some pics when i have time if any one needs advice installing a similar system just ask thanx nadine ![]() |

As far as amp installation, do your homework. The power and ground are equally important as are speaker wire, wire routing, etc.
Before I knew any better I wired up a huge amp and a nice sub on a crap power source and a joke of a ground. It sounded like i had bought a bunch of cheap crap at a swap meet. Now I've got the amp wired correctly with a 4ga power and ground wire. The differance is like night and day!!! I love doing the dyi stuff and it kills me to pay somebody else to do anything else for me. But laying down the cash to have a reputable shop wire an amp and stereo can be well worth your money. You only realize how much all the wire, connections, distribution blocks, fuses, etc. cost after you've bought them all. That's when you figure out the $100 or so for the install was a deal. |
