Angry "Acceptable" level of buzz in 2006 VW Beetle?

I purchased my first 2006 bug convertible (package 2 audio) less than one week ago and took it in for service due to a buzzing in the passenger speakers. It is so bad that I am unable to listen to even talk radio much less music at any reasonable volume with the top down. When I took it in to my dealer, I was told this was "an acceptable level of buzz for this standard of vehicle."

Either the dealer thinks I am an idiot or this is truly an issue which I just haven't discovered on these forums yet.

Has anyone else experienced such an "acceptable level of buzz" in their monsoon system?

I have not noticed any buzz at all in mine and it to is a 2006 convertible. I turn the music up VERY loud when on the highway and pretty loud even around town. Seriously, NO buzz! Good luck!

There is NO acceptable level of buzz for sound systems. The service manager wouldn't put up with "buzz" in his sound system. The dealer wouldn't put up with buzz in his system. And you should put up with any level of buzz in your sound system...

Yeah, what Alan said. Besides, the speakers and system are covered under warentee. A buzz from all speakers could be as simple as a loose ground wire.

and package two means you have the premium sound system. Monsoons are actually decent these days in the bugs and other cars...I dont get a buzz though i dont have a convertable either. But you should get that fixed and DONT BACK DOWN!

Default repaired

I didn't back down although there were two other technicians that apparently didn't hear anything. Finally, someone had an "un-acceptable" moment and heard the buzz that I had been complaining about. They had to open the door panel and insert a liner. The speakers weren't snug enough in the door and it produced a vibration that created the buzz.

I have my car back and am trying to get past my irritation of not having it for 40% of my first week of ownership. I just need a sunny day (unfortunately not in the forecast for the next week here in Seattle) and several hours to blast the music with the top down as I ride around some mountain roads.

Seattle?

That means you're coming to the GTG in the Gorge this weekend right?

Im glad it got fixed, but dont fret about not having the car as much as you wanted. It will only get better and then you will forget about it completly!

Enjoy, and hope to see you there!

thanks. I hit the events section and found the information about the meeting at the Gorge. Not going to make it this time around, but I hope you all have fun.

funny thing is...I am having buzz troubles with my 2005 beetle.
They replaced the speakers in the right hand side of the car after a few months BUT the new speakers took over 4 months to get into stock.....now the same thing in the left side. They put some more insulation into the left hand side of the door and it was ok for all of 4 days. I emailed them before I left on my road trip and heard nothing.

I will be going back to the dealer and making them fix the problem. This buzz drove me nuts and it continues too.

Default I have buzzing too!

My 2001 has a buzz too. At first I thought I blew out the rear passenger speaker by playing my iPod too loud, but it is an intermittent problem (every technician's nightmare). Does anyone know how I go about removing the rear door panel to get at the speaker and see if it's just loose or what?
