Default Change CD Cable from back of Radio - Do I need the Code?

Hey all - Not sure if I need to find my radio code to do this, since I can't find my card, and haven't had time to check under the spare tire in the trunk to see if it's there, but here's what I need to do.

I purchased an aftermarket iPod adapter for my 2002 Snap. I need to pull out the radio, remove the existing CD Changer cable, and re-install the new iPod cable in it's place. Can I do this without needing the radio code? I was hoping to be able to do this without disconnecting the battery, but I don't know if that's correct or not.

Help me out here! TIA....

Well I finally had time this weekend to install the cable. After installing it, the radio did go into safe mode. Like I said, I didn't have my card with the code, so I looked in the trunk, and did find a 4 digit number that I assumed was the code. Tried it twice, and it didn't take. Now the radio only says "SAFE" and there's a "2" next to it on the left, and it won't allow me to enter the code any more. I finally dug some more, and found my card with the correct code. But now I can't get the radio to the point where I can put the correct code in. I just says "SAFE".

Any ideas how to get past this??

The manual has directions on how to get the code into the radio. I can't remember off of the top of my head.
