Default New CD head unit?

OK so I took my NBC to the dealer and told them that the passenger side front dash speaker crackles occasionally ... their answer is to replace the whole head unit.

The dealer is going to replace the head-unit and I was wondering if anyone had their dealer replace the cassette head unit with the cd head unit (under warrantee)?

Seems like if they replace it with the cassette unit it would be a three year old unit, since all the newer (2004.5+) NB have CD head units.

Question is: will it do any good to complain to VWOA about this?

Replacing the head unit for a crackly speaker? WTH? We've had to replace the door speakers because the speaker was old, not the head unit.

I hope you get the CD/MP3 player. We have little experience in this dept; my husband had the Monsoon replaced in the Passat but then ripped the sucker out for a Kenwood MP3/cassette player.

Well it is a warrantee issue so they can do whatever...

Just seems like they would be using a three year old part though...If they replace with a cassette unit.

I'm sure they aren't still manufacturing the cassette player (why they put one in a 2004 car in the first place mystified us all, so they will be using a New Old Part...sucks!
