Default Tweeter option on new beetle

For those of us that like to upgrade the sound-system in our beetles, but don't want to do a lot of modification here's and option for you. They're a little pricey, but it's and alternative to cutting into the a-pillar just to replace the tweeter, or if you're just looking for an easy way to add more speakers, might even work if you're upgrading to a monsoon system and have the non-monsoon dash. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-uCSwmCH...0&I=044K1203C8
You can get them in either black, grey, or tan, to match any of the stock interiors you will have to either pull wires from your old speakers, or run some new ones to get these to work.. Not sure how they actually fit and how easy the installation is, but noticed the thread earlier about tweeters and just ran across these. If someone has tried these before please post on here how well they worked and how the install went.

It would be easier to replace the stock OEM door speakers with a good matched set of components like the Audiobahn ABC6002Q 6.5" w/crossovers. I've got them F&R and the sound is awesome.

I agree the door speakers aren't that bad, i'm getting ready to take my a-pillars off so i can make mounts for my tweeters from my infinty reference components, but this is just a suggestion for people that want to have a better speaker than stock and not want to do any cutting into the doors or the a-pillar for the new speakers. I mainly put this up there as an option for the tweeters b/c those you can only replace with the stocks unless you want to do some customizing to the trim. And crossovers are nice but if you really want a great sound out of your speakers it's best if you send only the frequencies that speaker is made for too it. In the crossovers you've got the mid speaker there trying to produce really low low's, the mids it was designed for, and some really high high's at the same time, thus creating a lot of distortion. There's nothing wrong with them and they're great for the difference in money. In my system my subs only pick up things below 100kHz and my rears, wich are crossovers, pick up 100khz and up, same with the fronts, but those are componets so it has and external crossover that sends anything below about 180khz to the mid speaker and anything over that to the tweeter, and i can tell you that you'll notice the difference. You can also go louder if you have less distortion .

6002's, awesome choice

I was looking at the kick panles when i got my bug and well, it's not for me. I need my dead pedal. I remember on the old org there was a german website that had custom molded a-pillar trim that had the tweeters aimed at hte driver, and not too long ago, i saw some also that i really wanted on ebay that would hold 2 gauges and could house up to a 4" speaker in the a-pillars. I almost bought those.

I'm going to make some of those here within the next month or so, i want to get all of my speakers in and mounted and i also wanted an a-pillar gauge pod so i was going to fab one up at the same time but the one for me will be made to hold a 1" tweeter and possibly 3 gauges. I'll shoot you some pics and if you like them i might be able to make some for you.

I neglected to reveal that each of the four 6.5" Audiobahn ABC6002Q speakers has a separately mounted 1.5" tweeter mounted alongside...hence the crossovers.

A pair of Rockford Fosgate RFR-3112 HX2 12" subs resides in a sealed Q-Logic enclosure in what used to be trunk space.

Three dedicated amps drive this system:

Sony MEX-5DI: AM/FM/CD/MP3/Memory Stick/Magic Gate - Pre-Amp Only Head Unit
Sony XT-XM1: Component XM Radio
Sony XM-2150GSX (2): Separate Front and Rear Amplifiers / 760w (Music Power) Each
Sony XM-1600GSD: Subwoofer Amplifier / 1600w (Music Power)
Sony CDXMP70: 6-Disc MP3/CD Changer
Audiobahn ABC6002Q Component Speakers: 6.5" | 1.5" Front and Rear (4 x 6.5" and 4 x 1.5")
Rockford Fosgate RFR-3112 Power HX2 12" Subwoofers (2)
Rockford Fosgate RFQ-1201 Crossover
Q-Logic Sealed Subwoofer Box
Lightning Audio 1-Farad Caps (2)

Sounds like a good system, I wouldn't mind seeing it sometime, but you had to cut into your door panel to fit those speakers, and that's great if you want to do that, but now that they're outside the panel for anyone to look in and basically window shop, I've had it happen to me before. All you have to do is remove a few screws and those speakers are gone, instead of messing with removing a door panel and then the mounting screws. Then if you sell your bug and want to keep all of your speakers, so you remove them, there's now two good size holes in the door panels that you'd either have to fill with other speakers or buy a new door pannel. There are benifits to these if you want to leave your car as close to original as possible or atleast make it really easy to get back to it. And like i said at the beginning these are just another option for replacing the tweeter, without much cutting, that most people probably don't know about. Some people just don't have the time to mess with it, the money to pay some one else to do it, or the know how. You even went with an easier route on your sub box, you bought one that the same company, as the kick panels, had made for the bug. Sometimes it's just a better deal.

I agree with you i'd rather have them mounted in the a-pillar, VW already placed them in a great spot. What speakers are you looking at gettin? Also don't quote me on this, but in the tweeter thread before this one, someone mentioned that in the monsoon cars the a-pillar doesn't have the tweeter, there's just a cover there for the hole that the non-monsoon cars need for the tweeters. The monsoon ones were said to be mounted next to the mid range speakers in the dash. Someone correct me if that last part is wrong.

im not even sure on what kinda system im gonna get, first off i would need a good deck (if money wasnt a problem. lol) later im probably gonna get some mb quarts (for sound clarity) and then get some subs, (hopefully wont take up more than 1/2 trunk, or whatever trunk there is. lol)

i like where you mounted your tweets hockeythug, looks nice!

anybody have any preferences on decks, amps, speakers ect..... thanks!

Obviously there are some differences between the years that yields speakers in different locations. My car, '05 w/Monsoon, had mid-range speakers in the dash and tweeters at the base of the a-pillars. I replaced the front speakers with a JL Audio 3-way setup and it required extensive modifications to fit the mid-ranges and the tweeters in the factory locations. Well worth it though, IMO.

Dude, you gotta post some pics if you taken some during the process. Exactly what kind of modifications did you do? I know I asked you this before on Vortex, but everything seems to dissappear from my mind after a while

Ohh, and my car 2003 TS has Monsoon and no tweeters in the a-pillars, only empty grille. Tweets are actually mounted right next to the mid range on top of the dash. I got really frustrated/mad at VW when I found out about this...

I didn't do the install myself, but I saw what modifications had to be made. Basically, nothing remains of the factory speaker mounts. Sorry, no pics

Here is a little How-To:

1. Slide the top dash center dash piece toward the windshield to release clips and take it out. Best done with screwdriver covered in electrical tape.

2. Unscrew the screws that you see connecting the top left and right dash pieces.

3. After that, you just pull up from the middle and go your way to the side to release all the clips and it should pop right out. Also, don't forget to disconnect cable before completely taking it out.

Hmm, I wish to do those sometime but it will be definately in some reputable audio shop. It should be pretty big job mounting speakers and then running all those wires!
