Question Out of Business??

When I was camping last week, I heard rumors that BOTH Serius and XM are going out of business because of large debt loads. Anyone know anything else about this rumor?

After paying that goofball Howard Stern all that money, I believe it's possible!

It's all numbers games. It's all about projections and subscriptions. Short version is this.. If they both don't up the rate of new subscriptions, they're both doomed financially, and subscribers will feel the pinch with rate hikes, or less radio.. how long is Stern's contract?

Personally I spend an hour a day in my car, and I love WHEB in NH's Seacoast. Now if that went way of the stars, I could maybe lean towards it.. but FM would have to disappear before I would truely feel comfortable spending money on something that I get for free and currently like.

BTW. how come we have to pay for cable, but still have to watch commercials. Think about it.. we pay to watch advertisements. I see that also happening to satelite radio. They'll start to gain advertisers to make up revenue for lack of subscriptions.

Cool Idea, but with lack of reception issues, and the burden of the radio and subscription, you really have to love talk radio to be a die-hard till the end fan.

I'll keep surfin the FM waves

I never thought I would PAY for radio...but I love the XM. Major reason is I hate all the interruptions of free radio. If XM starts running the ads, I will not be a subscriber for long.

If XM goes away, I will go back to CD's...or MP3, more likely.

I have always wondered why companies are allowed to carry such high debts on speculation they will become profitable. I know it is how industry is born these days...but I wonder how beneficial it truly is. I hope they don't "spec" themselves out of business!!

Howard's got a 5 year contract.

From what I have been hearing on Sirius...there aren't any problems with Sirius...but XM keeps tanking their projections for sign ups. Of course this is a skewed perspective because I got the info from Sirius.

I thought that XM just instituted commercials on some of their music stations...something to do with Clear Channel purchasing some stations. TJ posted about this recently.

I listen to Talk and Comedy primarily so I have to deal with commercials...when they come on I just jump around and listen to Hair Nation.

we tried XM...for a day. we couldn't get good reception anyway. inside, outside, the channels would fuzz out. what's the sense in paying for music if you can't hear it well?

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

I have sirius in my bug and love it. Commercial free music and the variety of alot of other thing makes it worth it for me. Especially on long trips.

NAh, I've not heard any such thing...and I listen to my XM every day (Gotta have my O&A!). What you probably WILL see is eventually both XM and Sirius will unite. They'll have to just to survive. But satellite radio will go on one way or another. Just my opinion.

Sirius is alive and kicking. It's not going anywhere anytime soon. Their programming is better then XM and the reception, at least here in the NW is superior to XM hands down.

I'm a BIG satellite radio fan. Doesn't matter if it's XM or Sirius, the music is the same. Sorry, no more off air radio for me, can't tolerate the yak and silliness. I'll gladly pay for satellite radio. I like XMs family plan, one radio at full price $12.95 and up to four others at $6.99. I had that many at one time. Both XM and Sirius are paying top dollar for NASCAR, NFL, MLB, and Howard Stern. I tried listening to Howard, too negative, too much self promotion, too much nasty sick sex talk (do it, don't' talk about it). His show gets a big thumbs down from me. I had a used Sirius satellite receiver that I used at work. I got it specifically to listen to Howard's show. It got struck by lightening. I went back to XM. One, or both will survive or they might merge. I like satellite radio for the variety. Most who have it, like it. I don't see it ever going away. They'll make it work. Long live satellite radio.

Since I reinstalled my XM in turbie I very rarely have to resort to a CD ! I am hoping for XM in HD will be coming soon !! It would be worth a price increase .
