Default HELP - VW say my Beetle is too old for CD unit

Tried to upgrade the cassette head unit in my early 2003 NB. Dealer say the dashboard was changed from November 2003 onwards on the new beetle, and before that it's impossible to fit an OEM VW single CD player in it's place.

The only option available, they say, is to go for a boot mounted CD autochanger, which I don't want.

Is there any truth in this?

Si

Not true, all NB OEM radios will fit. If you want a stock CD/MP3, just get the right one for your bug and swap it with your tape unit. I have an 02 and swapped the monsoon tape with a monsoon CD from a newer bug. It just plugs right in.

Thanks for that. I even had another dealer yesterday tell me that it was impossible to fit a single slot cd to any beetle in place of the cassette head unit! I know that's rubbish because I used to have a late 2003 model that I did that very thing to!

once you swap it...drive back to the dealer and show the person you dealt with as well as their manager to show that it works....then maybe they'll stop giving out false info!!!

Went to the dealership today to talk face to face about it. Spoke to a different person in parts who said they "even phoned technical about it".

I guess I'll have to wait around on e-bay until a single CD unit comes up for sale and just try it out for myself!

Grrrrrrrrrrr!

The VW parts boys up this way like looking up things by VIN number. Get a 2004 VIN from somebody and or from an auction on ebay take it in and order the In-dash CD from that. No use arguing with a wall, just go around it!

Must be...weird. What I said was tell them to sell you the Unit, and if it didn't work, it is on you...they can stamp the receipt no returns, unless defective, or something. As far as having the VIN, here you tell them the part number, they sell you the part.

I'm off to a dealership in Guildford tomorrow, they have one in stock (but it's £500 + £50 to fit!)

Going to try it...
