Default CD Changer Install

I am going to place a CD Changer into my 2006 Vert and called the dealership to ask which model of the changer it uses and where it is mounted and I was told it mounts in the center console and uses the casette-less CD Changer. I do not see how that is possible because my arm rest is only 3-4 inches deep.

Does anyone know where a CD changer mounts in the 2006 Vert and can it use the old Monsoon changers? I currently have the single monsoon XM radio combination installed in the car and was going to bid on a six CD-Changer that came out of 2002 model New Beetle.

So the dealer is actually correct - I just had my 6 disc changer pulled out of the center console on a 2004 Turbo S. When in doubt check out VW DriverGear online: http://drivergear.vw.com/store/acces...duct%5Fid=2763

If you are interested in a slightly used changer from a NB with less than 28K miles PM me and make an offer; it works, is in great condition and has the little 'storage unit' as in the picture.

Send me photos of what you have and a price. I am particular interested in what comes with the changer, such as the box.

Would you be willing to sale the storage unit? BTW, can you install the CD Changer without installing the storage unit? Thanks.

The '06 NBC console does NOT and CAN NOT have the changer in it. It can't... it's a different console and design. The armrest is made to swivel up in small increments for two or three stops (so you can adjust the height to your pref), and then to completely swivel up out of the way to a vertical position between the seats. The '06s have the CD changer mounted back in the trunk (again), it's a dealer-installed accessory. Unless you go to the trouble and expense of swapping out the entire console from a <06 model, you can NOT install a '03-05 console-mount changer in a '06 model.

Which brings to the fore my situation. I have the XM option (looooove it), so I didn't get the dealer-installed changer upon purchase. But I would like to add the changer or one of the (much-more-reasonably-priced options) aftermarket changers that will interact with the Monsoon head unit at some time. Does anyone know if/where the wiring is back there in the '06s? Yes, yes, I know it's there for <'06... but try as I might, I can find no evidence of it in mine. Has anyone installed their aftermarket changer backj there, and if so... guidance, please?

Definitely no to both questions - the 'storage unit' in this case needs to be mounted with the console mount / cassette-less changer. BTW I can't tell if this changer will work in your NB as you haven't filled anything out in your profile or signature.

I do not know what other information you would need. My Beetle is a 2006 Convertible and does not have the box in the center console, it has an arm rest. The radio that is installed is the dealer provided XM unit with CD changer, AM and FM. I have been told that the 2006 should have a trunk mounted CD changer by others here on the org.

Right. And if you notice I'm answering Bournehall's question, not yours. Boogety x2 made the point clear that this changer is not the one for you.
