Talking IPOD questions please

Not sure if this is the correct area to ask this question but here goes anyway;

My Girlfriend just gave me a 30GB IPOD for my birthday. I should be able to hook it up with just a mini stereo cord into the new jack that my 06' Vert came with, right? Also, does anyone know if there is a VW protective skin/cover/case to fit IPODs? It would be cool if a Bug logo was on one....

Greetings ... I use this patch cord that I bought at my local Radio Shack store, and it all works out just fine.

Sorry, not aware of a NB- or VW-themed iPod case ... mine is a black leather cover made by Incase. That would be very cool though ... let me know if you ever find one!

Thanks, Soccerbug. I will post any findings that I discover in my search for a VW theme IPOD case. Any others out there have any suggestions on where I might look????

Just a head's up....

The quality of the mini jack cable you use makes a HUGE difference. I started with a cheap cable (under $5) from Radio Shack and was not happy with the sound. I upgraded to a Monster brand cable, and the sound quality improved 100%.

This is just my experience.

Ok ... I may have to try that ...

Although the sound quality is better with my iPod and Radio Shack cable versus the radio, I'd be willing to try this upgrade ... thanks for your suggestion and feedback.

Ok, unlike the rest of you, I do not have a degree in electrical engineering. I've been wondering of late if there is a way to wire-up a mini-plug outlet to the CD changer plug that's buried in the cargo compartment. It'd be nice to run that line to my console for an iPod plug-in...

Didnt somebody describe how to do what you want in another thread? I think I did see it last week on here, perhaps in the Tech area? Good luck!

Thanks for the great info. I plan on purchasing a premium type cord tomorrow. I already have the FM/charger transmitter for my other vehicles, although Ive not tried it yet.....How should I expect that quality of hook-up to sound?

I have the FM transmitter for use with my iPod in my other vehicles. In general, around town it's not as good as the cable hook-up in my Bug. On road trips, or out in more open areas, it does seem to perform better, but again not as good as the direct hook-up.

Also, in general, the FM transmitter seems to perform better in my GMC than my Honda. I've noticed there is now available from Honda a cable for a direct a hook-up ... so I may look into having that installed.

Good luck with yours ...

Morning all....

Just my .02 on this subject....

direct connect is always the way to go when it comes to hookin' up your iPod. If you check out http://www.scoshe.com/, it's a good place to look.

As far as cases, accessories, etc, check out www.ilounge.com

There's a few places on there that make custom cases and what not, and I'm sure that if you're looking for something with a VW logo on it, you know it'll have to come custom.

If you have a cassette deck, get a cassette adapter. It works form me and I use a Belkan cradle that sits in the cup holder. I also have a connector that plugs into the power port behind the cupholders. It's low-tech but it works great.

I use one that came with my brother-in-law's XM radio and it sounds good to me.

Lots of great info here, and thanks. As far as buying a mini stereo cable that goes from the ipod to the dash plug, Ive one more question. There are lots of cables out there but they are at least 4-5 ft. long....Does anybody know of a shorter cable available? All I need is about 1 ft. in lenght.
