Default Subwoofer Question

Is it possible to hook a powered sub into the Monsoon amp? I like the sound from the current Monsoon system and I might change the deck but don't want to change the stock amp/speakers. I know its an odd question but it was a thought.

no and even if you could i wouldnt....it is already powering the speakers and it is so small that it would not effictively run a sub

If the sub is running off it's own amp, it's do-able, but you'll still have to run a power cable from the battery to the sub's amp, and ground it. But you could easily get speaker level and remote lead from the monsoon wiring harness.

There's a thread somewhere that has an pdf attacehd to it that has the wiring scematic of hte monsoon system on here. If i find it before you do, i'll post a link here.

I'm running an amp from the speaker inputs on the monsoon amp to a line output converter then to my sub amp, but I had to get my turn on wire from the cd changer harness.

In my old GTI with the monsoon I went with a high end Keenwood cause it was blue and red to match the dash. It was wired with the speaker level wires right into the amp. but here is the cool part. The head unit had a sub out with low pass and high pass crossovers for the speaker level outputs. This ment I could hook up a powerd sub and cross everything over so 80Hz so it sounded great and played like it had a 30-40 watt RMS amp on the high end but it was just a monsoon with more input power. The whole thing cost about $500 and I did it all myself. I used a single 10" kicker powerd sub box with 100 watt RMS amp built into the box. . The sound was great and it was alot louder then the stock monsoon and played real low without distorting..

I just recently added a Alpine Deck and replaced all the speakers in our NB as well as added a JL Stealthbox.

I considered running the new speakers off the stock wiring of the Monsoon amp, however when I removed the stock speakers I noticed that they are labeled as 2ohm speakers. Because I was unsure if the amp is running at a 2ohm load I didn't want to ruin the new speakers (4ohm) by using the amp.

Does anyone know anything about the output of the Monsoon amp or have any input on this? Output wattage? 2 or 4 ohm?

The Memphis speakers don't need alot of power so the deck is ok but I wonder if they would sound any better with alittle more punch behind them.

Intall Notes:
'03 NB Turbo S
Deck: Alpine 9856 w/Ipod Connection
Doors: Memphis 6.5" Components w/Tweeters installed in the A pillars powered by the deck
Rear: Memphis 6.5" Coaxial Set powered by the deck
Spare Tire: JL Stealthbox
Sub. AMP: JL 250/1

I LOVE IT!!!

It sounds like a million bucks, clear, crisp and will still pump out plenty of bass.

If you want something better then this, you'll be looking at doing a full enclosure which is going to take up most if not all of your trunk space.

For the someone that just wants some bass without loosing the trunk, this is a GREAT setup.

If your an audiophile and you expect nothing but perfection and shake your neighbors houses think about having a High end professional system installed.
