Default removal of radio

My head unit died in my 98 NB, and I checked the fuses on the door jamb, but I understand there are fuses located behind the radio/head unit. Is there a simple way to remove the dash or radio to check the fuse behind it?

there is a 10 amp blade style fuse behind the radio but you need special anti-theft radio removing tools which i have no clue as where to find.

or enfig.com

just so you know, if the radio died, it is probably dead or another problem. I have NEVER blown a fuse on a deck, blown plenty in the fuse box.

Check it, but unless something has changed wiring wise in the car, it would be an odd one to blow in a factory setup. Good luck

how does a radio just die? the lighter socket under the dash is also not working which is why I assume it's a blown fuse, but the fuse diagram is pretty useless.

start pulling fuses...... with a lil time looking the fuse diagram will make a lil sense. You said you checked the fuses already though????? I am confused, if the lighter is out too it is probably a fuse... then you say you checked the fuses. The fuse on the back of the radio would have nothing to do with the operation of the lighter. Go back thru and pull each fuse if you have to...... a fuse tester would be good too if you are having a hard time identifying the trouble.

Radio fuse is number 37. Should be 10amp. Monsoon fuse is number 42. Should be 25amp. Cig lighter fuse is number 41. Should be a 15amp. A stereo install shop should be able to pull the radio for you if you don't want to purchase the tools.

Good luck!!!

Sadly, your radio can die via jump starting. It happened to me when I got 'Cup jump started. Hopefully this is not your case. Oh yeah, if you need a radio removal tool, PM me and I'll make you one and send it to you free of charge.
