Default Landspeed and 2005 Head Unit

I have a 99 Beetle with the Landspeed audio system. I just purchased a 2005 head unit with CD from eBay, but I get no audio when I hook it up. The rest of the system seems to work -- I can hear the old CD changer working, and the radio "seeks" the next station correctly.

I called the Landspeed folks in Tuscon -- spoke with Dan, who suggested that the red wire which signals the amp to power up is not getting a signal. By the way, they no longer sell or service these systems, and suggested I go to a local car audio place, which I tried without success.

Has anyone here connected a Landspeed system to one of the new radios with CD? Any ideas of where to connect red wire? Thanks!

Find a place that does custom stereo sytems if you can't figure it out.

Alternatively, there's a orgers who are stereo hobbyists if i'm not mistaken. Perhaps a Froggy New Englander will find this thread???

Okay. I guess my first question would be was your 98 radio have monsoon? and is the cd player monsoon?

If both are no's, then there are probably a few places to attach the red wire (i'm assuming it's the amp turn on lead), but it should have worked in the same place that it was on the old radio. So i'm kinda baffled here unless something didn't get hooked up. (or if your trying to use a monsoon cd player with a non-monsoon setup)

I'd reccomend having somebody look at it, and if your around my area, i'd be glad to help you out.

Neither the original cassette radio not the new CD radio are Monsoon. In fact, I got this setup because Monsoon was not available back in 99. And Dan at Lansspeed mentioned that the wide availablilty of the Monsoon systems doomed the Landspeed setup.

I hooked up the connectors in the back of the radio the exact same way. The amp turn-on lead seems to have been moved to a new spot. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the new-style CD radio? If so, where is the amp-on conenctor?

I went to Tweeter in Towson, MD who originally installed the system, and Matt who is a VW enthusiast, did not want to get involved for fear of frying something. Does anyone in the Baltimore, MD area have any recommendations for local installers?
