Default Few Questions On The Monsoon

ok i have a non-monsoon system right now. but the mp3 forum says the monsoon plays mp3s.

does it also enable folders?

if so will it hook up to my stock 6 disc changer?

does anyone have a monsoon cd player they would be willing to trade for a really nice after market cd player?

does anyone have a picture of how it displays artists and song names?

i had the cd player in my last car so all my cds are burned into mp3 cds to take up less room in my cd book. but they all have folders. but i dont want to switch it out because i like the stock look and would rather keep it if i can.

I have a 2005 with the Monsoon system in it, and yes, folders do work. If I remember correctly I can progress or regress through folders using the CAT buttons .

Don't know how compatible the different years are i.e. 2001 vs 2005.

I like mine too much to part with it (also have XM Sat in the car)

Don't have any pictures but the track titles and some tag information (don't remember what info exactly, think it may just be artist or album info), it the title is long the characters will scroll across the display once and then display the original amount of info.

ALSO - The deck in my 2005 will also play MP3 files encoded using the MP3pro format (roughly 1/3 the size of a standard MP3).

I don't know if the wiring is the same or not. I would have to guess that it isn't because in my 2005 there is a Monsoon amp located in the rear of the car (can be seen in the driver side rear portion of the trunk when the spare tire cover is removed). I would be worried about a Monsoon deck having enough power to drive the base stock speakers without the Monsoon amp. I wouldn't buy or trade anything until it can be verified that newer year radios are compatible with older year cars. I think you will be S.O.L. as far as power unless you put some sort of an amplifier with the Monsoon deck (aftermarket or factory Monsoon). It may be easier (and cheaper) to get another aftermarket MP3 deck that has good amplifier circuits vs. getting set up with a factory Monsoon system.

Maybe someone else knows if the sound is even any good using the base stock speakers, if the deck is tuned for the Monsoon speakers.

Thumbs up Radio Swap

You can purchase the non-Monsoon head unit it plays MP3's too. It will work with you CD-Changer and plugs right in. I have a 2000 Beetle with an O5 Radio (Satellite, CD, FM).
