First of all, thanks to all of you for making this site such a helpful source of info, especially to newbies to the VW NB. I finally fired up this S50 unit today, after installing it over the weekend. For those who wonder what the heck this thing is: The SIRIUS S50 is a portable SAT receiver and personal player that functions like an IPOD when out of the docking station and on your belt (or whatever). You can download from your computer, record music, sports, etc that you receive, and so on.
Since we have an NBC, I installed the antenna on the dash. I did this by installing a 4X6 steel sheet on the fresh air duct under the plennum cover, and plopped the magnetic antenna on it. SO..no obvious signs of a SAT receiver. It works great in that position - guess I'd be tempted to use that location on any NB, convert or not.
I mounted the docking unit's bracket on the bottom of the PAX grip rail trim piece (side closest to the radio). That position gave me the best location for operation without using the remote - and insured good FM transmission quality. (That's right, this rig receives SAT radio then transmits FM to you OEM radio on a discrete FM freq). I was worried that I'd need a hardline FM adapter to carry the signal to radio. But the position of the S50, on the docking station, relative to the car's imbedded FM antenna works just fine. I'm impressed with both the reception and sound quality!
Thanks again for your help.
Bill
