Angry "CD ERROR" - Solutions?

Because it wouldn't be my NB without another problem.. lol..

Friday, I got in my car, drove home with music on, parked my car, turned the engine off and went inside. No problems with the CD player.

Saturday, I got in my car and took off for a friend's baby shower. The stereo wasn't working at all. It was as if someone had turned it off, although I normally leave it on, and when I hit the power button, it didn't do anything. It stayed blank. I shrugged and went on about my way. That afternoon, I kept trying to turn it on as I was driving and at one point, it did kick on and one of my CDs started playing. I drove home, turned the engine off, and went inside. That was that.

Monday morning, I got in the car and the stereo was powered, but when it went to read the CD that I'd left playing, it kicked back with "CD ERROR." I thought maybe it was just because it was extremely cold, but it never came around.

Since then, I've had "CD ERROR" on my screen when I attempt to escape FM radio. I popped the trunk this morning to pull out the CD cartridge thing and when I pressed the eject button a couple of times, it didn't even recognize it. It didn't do anything.

A friend of mine thinks I might have blown a fuse, or maybe a cord came unhooked or something. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I am really apprehensive to ask for someone's help outside of the ORG.. my friend's husband does wiring for car stereos, satellite systems, and alarms on the side, but he works 2 jobs, including one as a county deputy and the other as a warden of a regional jail. I'm not trying to bother him for something that's as simple as me plugging a wire in.

Any advice? Thanks!

don't mean to rain on your parade, but i'd get it checked out.

i had pretty much the same thing happen a few years ago, and the cd changer was "dead as a hammer." wouldn't play, magazine wouldn't eject. checked fuses, checked connections, etc.

took it to a local stereo shop...they were able to save 5 of 6 cd's in the changer...the other one shattered when the changer failed.

Aw man.

Well, I guess here's the next question: if the CD changer is dead, can I have it removed and then have a new CD player put in that doesn't use a changer? I really don't care much for the changer, to be honest. I just don't know if that's possible with the wiring and all for the changer.

(Thanks for your advice!)

Yes you can. It will require a wiring adaptor. If it were me, I would just install an MP3/CD (I'd get one with a jack for ipod built in) at best buy or such. Often there will be free installation there.

I've had the error too. It's the changer because it happened with my panasonic HU too. Try making sure it's warm enough(over20)Then eject your magazine and then use that forced air in the can stuff. You wouldn't believe how many dust bunnies come flying out. Good luck.

I, too, had that problem - on 3 different OEM changers!

The short-term solution was to get new cd magazines, but even that was a pia - the changer would only recognize certain 'slots' most of the time. It's too bad when you end up treating your changer like a disposable lighter!

After the 3rd one, I finally gave up and had the changer and radio pulled out and put in a radio/cd player that takes mp3 formatted discs.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, you guys.

I'm going to start shopping around for a good deal on a new stereo unit. I'm apprehensive to go with another changer because I really didn't care for it in the first place. I'd like to have a regular in-dash CD/MP3 player with iPod capability. Any recommended brands? I'm a little partial to Pioneer.

i get this message all the time. on any given day, 2-3 of my "slots" don't work in my cd changer. not always the same ones, either. i've given up. i just use my mp3 player though the tape deck.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.
