Default Factory Radio Issue

Hey all, My girl is having a problem with her stereo on her 2001 bug. It sometimes will not turn on at all and there is a red light lit on the stereo itself when this happens any ideas?

That light is the theft protection. It should turn on when you take the key out of the ignition. Something with the wiring, or fuses perhaps. Check fuses on driver's side left-side dash and on top of the battery. Is it the original radio?

Yes its the factory unit, it has since "fixed itself" as it has done before. Not quite sure what it was.

Now that I think about it, the light's rigged to the ignition. Might be a loose conn'n.
