Default Aux input for an 04 beetle in australia

Ive looked around almost every thread concerning this, and a few questions have popped up. I want to get an aux input for my beetle so i can listen to my ipod on the road. The radio in my car is different to the pics ive seen posted, but it is an in dash single cd/radio with no cd changer. not sure if htere is a cd changer harness installed. Just curious as to whether its justa matter of plugging in a harness to the back of hte head unit, or will i need some sort of cd changer emulator as ive seen mentioned before?

There is most likely a CD changer harness connection either in the trunk on the left side right behind the seat, or in the center console (depending on what was offered in 04 on the other side of the world). If you want to install an Ipod adapter, you just buy it, pull the radio, disconnect the cd changer cable, insert the ipod cable and reinstall head unit. From my understanding, you have to choose between the cd changer or the ipod adapter as there is only one aux. port on the head unit. Later model radios use a 3.5 mm jack that works independantly of the cd changer so you can use your mp3 player and cd changer, but we still face the same problems of one or the other if we want the dedicated ipod adapter installed.

After sprinting back to my car after reading your post, i found no harness; in either the trunk or centre console. seeing as my head unit is quite weird (the pictures in the manual arent like it), anyone know what my options are now, or will i just have to opt for an fm transmitter (not really interested in replacing the head unit as its my dads car D: )

If there is one in the center console you have to pull out the black plastic insert/pocket to reveal, among other things, the manual brake cables and the changer clip. Get a flashlight and look just forward.

ive decided to go with a new head unit. Was just wondering if any head unit will fit into the slot (single din) with/without an aftermarket faceplate. Is there anything else i need to know, ive read about needing an adapter for the antenna cable etc

I am trying to find the plug that would go for the cd player. mine is a 2003 and it has the moonson radio. it is the am/fm/cass with no cd. I have the ipod adapter that will plug into the cd cable if I could find that plug. I have looked in the center console under the tray and the only wires in that area are the ones that go to the aux power plug, like where you would plug your cell phone. I have looked in the trunk on the drivers side behind the rear seat and clear in the back where the radio amp is. I can not find a plug that would go to a cd player if I had one.
I did pull the radio and there is a cable plugged in that is the cd cable and so I know it goes somewhere but darn if I can find it.
now is your chance to tell me where to go
thanks

I don't think so...or else I'd love to see a pic of a radio with the 3.5mm jack in it. I'm looking at the back of an '05 radio right now. no jack. nobody--and I mean nobody--knows what I need to buy to plug an mp3 player into this thing via the aux port.
