Question Installation help with Monsoon system

Hi....

I have a 10 or 12 inch sub that i want to add to my car's audio. It has a box and should work fine, but i know nothing of how to install it.

SO i know i need an amp and wiring, but what else will i require for a simple installation?

I remember on Amy's Skittle, for her sub (formerly Justin's) there was a separate volume for the sub. I'm not opposed to this, but i'd make a fancy mount for it so it looked vehicle specific. That's the easy part.

I need ideas on inexpensive amps that sound good. I need to know how to make this work with my Monsoon system.

HELP!!

To keep things simplified Just go to a local reputable car stereo shop. They will take good care of you and not swindle you.

In a beetle with a monsoon setup installing an amp and sub is normally a 2 hour event so expect to pay around $80-100 in labour. Wiring kit would be around $40-50. And depending on the subwoofer you have and how much power you want a decent amp can run anywhere from $129 5 Bazillion.

You could use just about any decent power amp with the sub. You would still have to run a power cable from the Bug's battery to where ever the amp would be mounted, most likely the trunk.

If you didn't want to "crank up da boomin bass, yo" you could connect it to the Monsoon power amp which is located in the trunk, driver's side, below the rear tail light.

You could disconnect the rear speakers and use one (or two if it is dual voice coil) channel for the sub... or take it to a stereo shop and have them install an amp would probably be easiest, but not the cheapest way to go.

Actually, it's not really a volume. I think it just controls the bass but those are cheap and I think you can hook em up to any amp. Talk to Justin. He installed it all himself. The same bass control knob I have is on ebay for about 20 bucks
Punch bass control remote control knob It's a Rockford Fosgate like my amp.

The Bass knobs are specific to amplifier manufacturer and are also sometime specific amp model specific.

Another HUGE issue with them is that they do not make the subwoofer louder as a whole, But only focus at a certain frequency, generally 45HZ. SO when you use the knob to ad bass it gets very boomy and distorted.

If you really want someone to help with the actual install, i'd suggest asking someone from eurokings. i'm sure someone would be glad to help. if you lived closer to me, you know i'd do it.

Probably the best way to connect an amp to a stock system is to get a line level converter, or get an amp with speaker level inputs. Either way is definaltely not reccomended by most audio guru's cuz it totally kills alot of sound quality to some people, but it's the only way to do so without getting a different radio.

If you want something really easy to do, i'd reccomend getting one of those all-in-one amp/sub/box deals. Theyre a little pricey, but not as pricey as actually buying the amp, sub, and box seperately. And i think almost all of them come with speaker level inputs.

If you want something teeth rattling, then it's up to you with what brand you want to go with and how much you want to spend, and how much of your trunk you want left.

That depends on what type of music you're listening to. It doesn't always sound boomy and distorted. I've noticed there are some songs that sound really good with the bass turned almost all the way up and others sound better more towards the middle or turned almost all the way down. But I didnt know about the bass knobs being specific to amp manufacturer. Ya learn something new everyday, I guess.
