Default My 1.8T 'vert needs more bada-boom!

I am wanting to put a sub in my car (preferably trunk) and had no idea of what I can do to still be able to utilize a little of my trunk space. I'm thinking a 10" sub, but didn't know if anyone knew any place where I can get a box to fit my car, etc.

I'm open to all sorts of suggestions!!

Is your present system monsoon or non-monsoon? Are you still using the stock head unit?

You would actually have room in your trunk to do this? I always joke that my trunk is really just a hole in the back of the car.

It's the monsoon and I'm using the stock head unit. I just want a little more kick in the bass without pulling it through my speakers - don't want them to blow.

I've been told that there is a box made specifically for the NBC, but I haven't ran across anything. It doesn't have to be a 10" either. Something smaller would suit me fine, too. It doesn't need to boom so hard that Skeeter bounces. HA!

Well, I hope so. I've been told that there's a box out there for our NBC's but haven't ran across it yet. Hopefully with all the modded beetles someone will have some ideas for me.

JL has one that fits in the spare wheel location. Not sure how it integrates with the monsoon though.
OOPS! Just read it doesn't fit the convertible. I believe there are similar products out there though. Try crutchfield.com.

OK. I'll check that out. I think that system is around $800, but maybe I'll find something just a smidge cheaper than that.

Thanks for all your help SB

IIRC the NBC uses a space saver spare, don't think it would be easy getting a full sized outta that trunk. Probably limits your options as far as saving space. It's all gonna be CUSTOM, go to the best local shop you can find, and you will have to drop some cash... but if they are good you should be able to walk out with your monies worth.

MTX makes a custom cabinet as well.

That is the powered one, without their amp it's $200 less.

I have a 10" in mine and it still gives me plenty of room in my trunk for what I need (groceries, snowboarding accessories, bodies... ) I have the amp mounted to the back of the backseat.

You can have it put where the spare is but then you won't have a spare and unless you have a good towing package on your insurance or AAA, I wouldn't reccommend driving around without a spare! But they can make some nice "in-floor" boxes with plexi-glass and what not.

If you're interested in what mine looks like I can take a photo for you. I don't have a vert, but you'd get the idea.

A 10", I think, is plenty of boom for the little bubble. It's nothing major, but you can tell it's there. And I'm not sure about the Monsoon system (I know it's good) but you still might think about upgrading your stock speakers. Only because stock speakers aren't really made to handle all that bass. You can get speakers that are more suited to handle all the highs and lows and what not and you'll get a better sound quality. Like I said, I don't have the monsoons so I don't know how they would handle it but in the long run I would suggest something better.

Doesn't work in the convertible. Really those of you that haven't seen it are underestimating how small VW made the trunk on the vert. And not so much how small it is but how small the opening is to get crap in there. For the people with a hard top NB, you have a TON more room for speakers and what not then the vert folks. It's been a while but from memory I don't think there is a prefab MDF box that would fit in thru the trunk opening (unless it's for 6x9s or maybe an 8).
