Default 04 Beetle GLS Convertible doesnt have a CD player!?!?

Ok, I'm very new to the beetle world so forgive me if this is a silly question but I thought all GLS beetles came equipped with the CD changer in the armrest?

I just bought an 04 Beetle GLS Convertible, leather, ESP, heated seats, monsoon stereo, etc, etc, etc BUT in the armrest where the CD changer usually is there nothing there. Just a felt lined empty cubby space.

The stock radio deck has the button for CD and once this is pushed the display reads "No Changer"

Do you think this car came equipped from VW with a cd changer and over time someone removed it? Did the car never have it to begin with?

You could be correct on both questions , You coudl probably get one off ebay or from your dealer , I believe they are just plug and play .

The 6 disc CD changer was a dealer installed option. If you have the "felt" insert, chances are there never was a changer installed.
However, if your vert was manufactured after 1-1-04, you should have the indash MP3 capable single CD player as part of the radio headunit.

That's just like having the 6 disc changer because you can burn your own MP3 CD's and get well over 150 tracks on a single CD.

My '04 didn't come with a cd-changer but is pre-wired for one. The connection for the cd-changer is inside the center console, accessible by simply popping out the felt-lined tray.

If you're pre-wired for a cd-changer then you have options. You can buy an Auxilliary Input Converter, plug it into
the cd-changer connector and use the resulting connection to hook up an MP3 player, satellite radio, etc.

As for your Monsoon, the "CDP" button is for your in-dash CD player and the "CD" button is for the cd-changer (or whatever may be connected to that line).

Edit: There are several very good How-To's in this forum on how to hook up Aux Input Converter.

We have a 03 NBC GLS. We have the 6-cd changer in the arm rest and a slot for a cassette on the radio. Do you have a slot for a single cd?

We recently bought a VW Windstop (eBay $105) to stop the wind buffeting when driving at highway speeds, top down and windows up.
