I posted this just now at the Vortex, but I thought I'd try here too. There should be an answer to this after all the time it's been out.
I put in a late-model OEM CD (not cassette) satellite-capable non-monsoon radio in my Beetle. This radio can be used to receive aux inputs by pushing a button on the head. I understand that in the stock setup with the included auxiliary jack, there are two wires going from the back of the radio to the jack. How can I add this capability to my car? Is there a harness plug, or which wires can I tap in to? Thanks. PS: I have the VW PhatNoise and don't want to lose that. |

but let me know if you figure it out--I'm going to spend the rest of the day looking for a wrecked 2005 to rob of its wiring system. |

You need to try this website for anything aux input. Good company and helpful.

The reason for me looking into this again (I tried about a year ago or so) is that my XM Roady II receiver's display is crapping out and I just found out that as a result of the FCC, you can't just play them through your radio: you need to wrap a wire around your antenna! Not the ideal of portability,I would say.
Anyway, cray91, I took out the radio and looked at the wiring diagram. I also started a thread at TDICLUB.COM, http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=1735979. I think I read a thread on this forum that referenced another thread somewhere else that confirms that something might work. There's a green plug with empty pin positions for aux right and left and ground. Somebody provided me with a part number for repair wires (with terminals). They're, like, 4 bucks each but I don't have the inclination to go to a junkyard. I figure I can get a female jack at Radio Shack and wire if needed, solder it and mount it. I'll let you know how it works out. I too have gotten very little response. |

what I want (and this is where everybody clams up) is to make the 2005 radio I have operate like oem. i.e., I want the 'AUX' port to run to a female 3.5mm jack under the dash, just like I'm told it does on 2005+ beetles. I don't want to give up the oem cd changer or anything else, just work like the radio is designed. the only way I'm told I can do that is get the wiring from a car originally equipped. (I want to be able to plug something into that port. currently a creative zen mp3 player, but anything else that will plug into a 3.5mm port.) I'd also (and god knows this is a stretch) like the oem sat radio to be functional. again, to do this I'm told the only thing I can do is get the oem wiring. I found a source for the oem tuner, but I need someplace to plug it in. nobody knows how to do this, which is why I'm looking for a wrecked 2005+ that had sat radio. |

This is the thread I was thinking about:
Aux Input Harness & Cable Part Number? I like the idea of a portable XM radio, but the new SureConnect sure is an impediment to that. |

Here is another thread I found with part numbers.
Only thing, it's for a Golf. It has a big ugly white base for the female input jack. I guess since it goes in the glove box on the Golf it doesn't matter. http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5233 It would be really really nice if someone could come up with the part numbers for a Beetle. |

I just ordered that adapter from Enfig.
It is for some type of Blaupunkt application, but my plan is to duplicate BitBoy and trainspotted's work. It has the blue connector on one end and a male 3.5 mm plug on the other. I will just plug that into my xm radio when I need too. My plan is to remove the connectors from the blue plug and insert them into the green plug. I've removed pins before with a paperclip, and I think I might have a pin removal tool around somewhere, so I'll try that method first before destroying the plug, although the plug is really useless anyway for my use. http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...LAU_8_35M.html Note (for posterity): This cable from PIE is really a substitute for the Blaupunkt part: 7 607 897 093 Will ship 6/6 Last edited by VelvetFoot; 06-01-2007 at 04:12 PM.. |

Well the adapter came today and I installed it and it works great. Very easy to install. Thanks much to trainspotted2 in the thread linked earlier. I am making a how-to thread on tdiclub.com (because images are easier to upload in my opinion). I'll put a link in this thread when I'm finished (dial up, whew!).
I am finally finished. I sure hope broadband gets out to my area soon. Here is the link: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=1750651 .Last edited by VelvetFoot; 06-09-2007 at 03:19 AM.. |
