Default swap a tape radio for a cd player...

anyone know how much it would cost me to swap my tape player for a new cd player? i don't want to buy a new one somewhere else and have it installed because of my warranty.

dude at the dealer told me it was roughly $269tax included for a cd changer, but that doesn't include labor. i should have asked how much it would be to just put a cd player in instead of adding to it but it slipped my mind.

anyone know or can anyone lead me the right way? thanks!

You should be able to buy one, and install it yourself for $150 or less.

You can go to Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, etc and buy a much nicer one than the stock player the dealer will sell you for much less than what the dealer will charge you. Installing it is easy but if you are not technologically inclined or afraid you can take it to a stereo shop and it'd be fairly cheap.

okay i know i can buy one anywhere else and get it installed. but dude at the dealer told me that it would **** up my warranty. if my check engine light came on for any reason at all and i had another radio installed somewhere else..then i would be out of luck. they wouldn't be able to fix my problem. thats the reason why i rather buy it from them..but the labor and the radio will be a grib..so yeah.

I've never had a warranty issue and I have an aftermarket deck. As long as the unit is correctly installed you will have no "warranty" issues. My personal recommendation... if you're handy, go to crutchfield.com and pick the unit you want. Everything you will need comes with the stereo as far as installation. I don't trust "stereo/electronics" stores such as BestBuy or Circuit City for installations. They just don't take the pride in installations unless it is their vehicle.

I bought a used vw 2005 radio/cd player through www.car-part.com . Plug and play (just remember to get the secret code). I just recently figured out how to install an input jack, since the later models have that function, and that works great now too.

I think the dealer is just trying to take advantage of you by telling you the aftermarket player will void your warranty. I've never heard of such a thing.
