Default iPod weirdness

(First of all, I apologize for not knowing the technical language for this. I'll try to explain it the best that I can.)
I have a connector under my dash for an MP3 player. I've tried it with two different Belkin cords now and the sound isn't right. It sounds mono but with one channel dominant and the other receeded. The whole thing sounds weak and weird. (Not listenable). It's not a problem with my iPod. Has anyone else had this experience?
Is there some simple thing that I'm overlooking? (I hope.)
Thanks!

The only simple thing I can think of is that the jack isn't pushed all the way into the 'connector' plug.

I've kind of noticed the same thing with my ipod Nano. I was using mine yesterday and noted it didn't sound the same. It is possible that the connector in the dash has a loose connection but probably not. I'll check mine again today to see what I find.

Lorilyn -- using my iPod with a Blitzsafe connector to the CD-changer produces the same weirdness. I just hadn't gotten around to posting about it.

The speakers sound fine when it's the radio playing. With the iPod, the right channel doesn't work (front/back). When the balance is all "Right", no sound. When it's closer to "Center" (2 or 3), you can barely hear sound from the speakers. (Stock Monsoon system, FYI). I've checked and re-checked connections. If the speakers work with the radio, why not the iPod?

I wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat as you.

Push the cord all the way in. I had this problem, once, before I got a 'in line' adaptor for my iPod. Sometimes, that is all it needs is a good shove.

If that does not fix it, try another cord. Often, with those little stereo plugs, they can break easy.
