Question Building a Sub box

I was given a pair of Rockford Fosgate 10's and an Kenwood Sub amp by a cool co-worker.

I am wanting to build a false floor type box for my extended cab '00 Ford Ranger. I want it to be as stealth as possible. (I like my windows unbroken, thank you!)

I am going for a sealed box (to keep lost space at a minimum.) I listen to most everything except gospel and country music. Heavy emphasis on Metal and Blues. I don't need to be heard coming down the road, just more bass than my stock 5x7 speakers can provide.

The Subs need .75 cu/ft of space each.

I'm not going to start the box for a week or two, but wanted to get some more info on building a box.

When I design the box, do I need to take into account the space the sub itself displaces?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on.

Yeah that .75cu-ft is the amount of free volume needed, so you need to take into account the speaker basket. If you're just trying to get a better sound from your music then getting it to be roughly .75 will give you the nicer sound you're looking for. If you're building for a competition then you will want to definately want to make sure you get the .75

I guess I should brush up on my geometry!

It's been many years since I have even thought about Car Audio that I have forgotten some other details.

Wood thickness....3/4" plywood? Or is there something better than plywood. I don't need to spend a lot of money, but I do want something that will last for a while.

What about sealing the box? Regular silicone caulk?

I know I can do some searching around the net......

Do not use plywood or it will sound like crap. MDF is the only way to go. It makes great sound and will hold up.

Rockford Fosgate has a box designer on their website that tells you sizes....

I had a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab with the suicide doors... a friend of mine had given me two Pioneer competition series subs , and I wanted them in BAD

So my buddy David and I picked up some 3/4" MDF and made a custom box with dual sealed compartments. The box fit over the hump in the middle, and was held into place by the seat-belt harnesses.

Powered by a Crunch Powerzone P2200 amp, the inside of that truck was *rockin'*.

I had also custom modified an after-market stereo kit , and mounted an equalizer in place of the cd pocket. Took me about 3 hours with a Dremel tool to get that pocket the right size but the end result was nice.

Man I miss that truck.

There are also options on eBay for Ford Rangers.....

Or this one... (130 bucks includes shipping)

This one even lists some dimensions...
box info!
