Only a guess that there's something wrong between the antenna tip and radio. Appearently we're known for poor AM reception. That you were listening to it when it stopped working is kinda indicitive that it USED to work fine though. Good stuff.

But doesn't give you much direction, sorry.

I've brought this up many a time. Same prob. Got FM, AM nada!
Dealer wanted to swap the radio for $340
I went and bought a $10 hand-held SW radio for my traffic reports, and I'm laughing...

Don, my '98 had this problem--I got the cable and antenna base replaced under warranty and it helped, but our AM reception still is poor. My '03 has been OK so far :wawalker knocks on wood:

Cool

If I had your issue, I'd get a really inexpensive antenna and plug it into the back of my audio head and see if I had an issue with the head unit (I said "head unit", heh-heh). That way, I'd be much closer to isolating the problem...

Goog luck there...

If you read my original post I already swapped out the head unit when this problem started thinking it was my after market unit i put the stock unit back in and had the same problem that rules out the radio have to go deeper now.

update

OK guys i dove into my problem today and figured it out.

First I disconnected the cable from the antenna base with the cable disconnected I had a good FM signal I then tune in a AM station and touched the center wire on the cable and bingo the station cam in loud and clear. cable and head unit are fine.

Next I removed the antenna base and started to look everything over and what to my surprise did I find when some underpaid Mexican installed the antenna they pinched the cable coming out of the base over time it wore through till the wire broke.

So it looks like i am in the market for a new base.
