Post How to remove the tape player

Hi,
Does anyone have instructions/pictures as to how to remove the tape player from 98 Beetle? I have tape stuck/jammed in the tape player and it broke inside. I think I will have to remove the unit and then pull out the stuck tape.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Manish

it doesnt work like that. you can remove the HU, but it will not help you to remove the tape.

There are radio keys you can buy- or cut an old credit card into a set of keys- about 5mm wide strips with a 1inch long diagonal slant to tips and a notch at the base of the slant. Use the search You might be able to get better access to the tape with the radio (HU head unit) out- there are ventilation holes on top which you can use to poke at the offending cassette with an awl, screwdriver, etc. Be careful not to get plastic bits jammed up in there.Failing this, it is probably easier to buy a junkyard NB radio than disassemble the stock unit to get at the tape heads... Did the tape deck work well before? If so, maybe it's worth fixing- I've gone through two that never worked right.
