Default Replacement for Monsoon Door Woofers

Since I've had by 2002 NBTS, front speakers have not worked. Am assuming they are blown (system had been altered before I got the car).

Am thinking about replacing with 6.5 woofers - I see MB quart woofers reasonable on E-bay in 6.5 - anybody had experience here? Other suggestions for woofers that would fit in door? Are there depth restrictions (couldn't fine on crutchfield)? Will I need some sort of adapter plate to make the speakers fit properly?

I have no problem with drilling etc, just want to replace the speakers with something decent, not too pricey.

Thanks for your help!

Well, I don't know much about the depth in the doors and whatnot, but if someone had previously altered the stereo setup, the monsoons are probably just fine, but they most likely either had an aftermarket amp installed, (and then pulled it, so nothing is connected to the front speakers).. or they disconnected the Monsoon amp under the rear panel.

My cousin just got a 2002 Jetta 1.8T with a Monsoon.. and he couldn't figure out why none of the audio works. I took one look in it and it was an easy answer for his.

All the speakers were upgraded, and the deck. In the trunk, hidden behind a panel, we found a zero gauge power cable, 3 sets of RCA's and all the speakers wires.

They had been running a 5 channel amplifier for Sub and speakers and then when the car came to the dealer, the dealer remove the sub and amp, disabling all the speakers without realizing it.

they are getting the amp and sub back for him so it will work.

It's possible a similar situation happened with yours. Could just be a matter of re-connecting wires

If you do need new speakers, you will have to take depth into consideration. If you look at thefactory speakers, they actually mount in hte middle of the spekaer depth instead of right at top, so they stick out about an inch on both sides of the door panel.

I remedied that by mounting my door speakers to the door cover instead of to the door itself, but there are mounting spacers available, if you want to go with a deeper speaker, and keep the factory look.

I have a 03 Beetle Turbo S that has 2 sets of wires in the trunk area, only the rear speakers work, once in a while when I hot a bump the front side door one starts working ( until I turn the car off ) and I have not had a chance to check why it works like this, but I am also going to change out the head until.
New head units are dirt cheap and just a decent pair of 6 1/2 wont set you back too much.
