IPOD adapter for 2003 convertible

I just got a 2003 convertible and have the Monsoon casette deck with no CD changer. I was interested in installing an IPOD adapter in the trunk because there is supposed to be a harness in the trunk, but I can't find it.

I looked all over the left side but can't find it. Do I need to remove the trunk lining? Can anyone help? Any pictures would be great!

Also, any opinions on what IPOD adapter is best would be greatly appreciated. I'm leaning toward the USA-SPEC model.

I think all the NBC's have the changer plug in the center console.

I pulled out the felt box from the center console and found a 12 pin connector!

hello, my gf also has a 2003 beetle convertable and i am wondering once the ipod adapter is installed to the center console plug how does the radio know the ipod is now on and start playing? cause she just has the cassete in the dash there is no cd player. she does have a 6 disc cd changer in the trunk which i am guessing it is connected to the center console as well but i am just wondering once i connect the ipod will it just start up? thanks and email me at agallowa@edd.ca.gov with your response thanks agian.... alan
