Need help with CD changer 2000 beetle...

My wife has a 2000 beetle with factory in dash, her brother found her a cd changer out of a 98 gti. CD changer model# 3B0 035 111B made July 1998 it has the same plug as in the car, but when plugged in it won't eject the cartridge and says error on the console. I looked at the plugs and the cd changer has 10 wires and the car has 9.
cd changer wires are as follows:
1 orange
2 small black
3 green
4 brown
5 empty
6 yellow
7 red
8 gray
9 big black
10 white
11 blue
12 empty

car harness wires are as follows:
1 blue
2 yellow
3 orange
4 green
5 empty
6 red
7 white
8 gray
9 black
10 purple
11 empty
12 empty

any help or suggestions on getting this thing to work would be great. Thanks

You might have to recode the in dash with a VAG-Com or similar OBD tool.
