Angry Haunted Radio

Looking for advice. My 02 Turbo S runs awesome, the only problem mechanically is with the radio. It turns on, but no sound comes out!

Help please, the silence is burning my ears! (I drive 300-400 miles/week).

check in your trunk to see if your monsoon amp is plugged in correctly. is the head unit still stock? did you just buy the car? alot of people hack up the stereo and then trade it in...

Thanks for the advice. I'll check it out as soon as the weather here clears up (nasty cold rain out there). I did just get the car July 31st, and the problem started out infrequently at first, and has gotten increasingly worse as time has gone by. Stupid people messing with things - it is the stock 6 disc Monsoon changer that was an option with the car when it was originally bought (I'm the second owner).

Dana, i think he means the amp. If you haven't yet found it, check under the trunk carpet behind the plastic wall behind where the drivers side tail light is. It should be a small red metal box with a Monsoon logo. It might have been unplugged for another amp at one point.

hi there, the radio you have in your car is probably a tape deck. unfortunately the bugs suffer in subtle options, like unpainted 337 brake calipers for example anywho, sony produced the head unit for volkswagen, though sony is a great potato company, all companies like to manufacture extremely frail products. the amp should be fine if this has been an intermittent problem. the only thing that'll fry an amp is the power giver, which is the car battery and the radio. but this is highly unlikely considering the factory monsoon amp is very good. my car does this once in a while and i just cannot wait until i get my blaupunkt head unit in it "wink wink"

isn't the sound quality great when it does work?! like, the bass be wangin'!

anywho, being unplugged is highly unlikely cause you had sound, just intermittantly.

thanks for reading

the sound has gone off completely now and i haven't been able to get anything... i'm thinking it may have been loose and come unplugged or something. anyway, with all the other posts about the stock headunit issues i've read, i'm seriously considering for the sake of ease to get another one. i'll keep y'all posted...

it's not just the NBs either - had a similar issue with the headunit in Kitty (99.5 cabrio).

Look around for someone in your area, or go to a nearby GTG.

Someone might be able to help you out, the monsoon system is pretty nice, and it's alot of wire; it'd be a shame to ignore it or try to replace it.

Hey, I'm pretty sure the headunits were panasonic? I'm certain the cd changer is. Maybe the monsoon system is different though, or maybe they left panasonic before 2002.

thanx for the input you guys - unfortunately all lady purchases are put on hold and on a wishlist for the moment as we just discovered that our heater in the house (the house we bought last spring) has a leak!

i'd love to attend a local gtg, regardless of how small - but with two jobs my schedule gets cramped - anyone up for meeting up over the break between winter and spring semesters (sorry still on college time - always will be)?
