Default HeLp....aftermarket stereo and airbag light

I'm sorry if maybe this topic is already posted.

I just had an Alpine installed into my 2004 Beetle GLS with Moonsoon speakers. I wanted the ability to play my ipod.

3 days after it was installed my Airbag light came on.

Dealer says they can't read it with their diagnostics because of the aftermarket stereo. The wiring was effected. My airbags will not go off now if i'm in an accident.

They said to have the radio installer re-install the old stereo to factory settings in order for them to read why the airbag light is on.

anyone had this problem?

you really should take it back to the shop that you had do the install. if that is too difficult try disconnecting the battery for at least 3-5 minutes.

good luck

a: the scanning issue is only on stereo's before 02.5, newer ones dont have the wire that could possibily be a problem.

b: the installer needs to fix it

c: it is usually something like "intermittent dash light failure"

d: if you know anyone with a vag-com, they can scan it. if they're worried, you can take off the face plate, and there is no risk of shorting anything out.
