Question Expert advice? 06 monsoon cd stereo hook ok where had 02 monsoon casette stereo?

here is what I have now in my 02 new beetle tdi gls (pictures borrowed, but same thing):

front:

back:

Can I plug and play this 06 beetle monsoon cd player? Some of the connectors on the back look the same, some look different. I would think all I need would be power and speaker hookup, I don't care about the changer.

front:

back:

My guess is they are different enough that it is not going to work. Any expert knowledge out there?

it can work, but it isnt plug an play, and will never be fully functional like stock. in 02.5 VW went from a switched 12v signal to a CAN-BUS data network: the tape deck needs a 12v signal to turn on, the CD player needs a data signal.

as far as I know, no one makes a CAN signal generator, so your only option is to manually turn on and off the HU when you get in and out of the car.

enfig.com has all the wiring adapters you'll need.

I am interested in this option too. I like the factory look, and Ipod, bluetooth, and sat radio is available now. CAn it be done?

its because you have an 02.5. there are only two types of plugs, CAN plugs, and non-CAN plugs. if you have an 02, and they plugs dont look like the 06 HU's plugs, your car isnt CAN

How do you tell if you have a 02.5 or just a regular 02?

see in the big picture of the rear of the HU? there are three groups of pins, the top ones are horizontal, followed by two sets of vertical ones. this is a harness for a can system

If the front looks the same, I don't know which connectors I currently have. Either way, I bought the 6 disk changer used from the other thread so I don't need to change my head unit.

I actually meant how do you tell if the CAR is a 02 or an 02.5. I don't have the keys for pulling my radio so I can check the connectors.
